An optional stage in solving a problem is incubation. This is when the
problem-solver takes a break from trying to solve the problem at hand,
planning to return to it at a later time. This strategy is effective because
when one works at a problem for too long, he will often arrive at the same
dead ends in his problem solving methods. Incubation allows one to "forget"
his previous strategy for solving the problem, so that when he comes back
to it, he may try an entirely new strategy.
