Subject: Quick notes on Hasbro in Turkey


  The following quote explains Hasbro's existence as a company here 
in Turkey and is from this site:

market in Turkey. Hasbro entered the Turkish market by signing co-
operation agreements with a strong local company called Intertoy. In 
1999, Hasbro bought all the shares of Intertoy and started actively 
investing in Turkey. In 2003 Hasbro/Intertoy had a value share of 30% 
in branded toys and 6% in overall traditional toys and games."

  So their existence here is a relatively new thing. Their TF 
distribution may suck over here, but I guess I should be happy I've 
found anything at all considering how recently they've arrived on the 
scene. 
  If I'm interpreting this info correctly I have come over here at a 
time when the official release of TFs just barely started. I guess 
that's significant from a historical perspective.

The only significant Turkish variant I've found was the RiD train Midnight Express, who got that 'Euro Express' sicker put on his package covering the original name.

 There are a few online but they all suck. My Turkish also sucks but 
I can do a better job than the online translators I've found. The 
only significant or interesting thing I've seen on the 
Hasbro/Intertoy site that's TF related is the timeline with the 
picture of Overlord in the 1991 year block:

  That specific square reads "Turkey welcomes the brave Transformers 
robots." So that means that TFs have been here since '91, possibly 
starting with the Euro Classic reissues. I'm trying to make some 
connections on Turkish message boards to get a feel for what was 
released here.

  I misinterpreted the euromonitor page I quoted. I got the 
impression that Hasbro hadn't arrived on the scene until 2003, but 
they've been here since 1987 and TFs apparently started here in 1991. 
So I wanted to clarify that.

Oh hey-here's another cool Turkish TF link. Check out this Turkish 
online store's G1 commemorative TF selection.It's a cached google 
page because they don't sell the G1 commemoratives anymore, but it's 
cool anyways:

You'll see solicitations for Starscream and Hot 
Rod using pictures of the actual products, modified missiles and all. 
Note the price-16,320,000. That's what I paid for them when I found 
them here. It broke down to about 12 dollars each. Who said TFs were 
expensive in Europe?!?!
