Q#23  Recommendation for Backups

Backups are important.  Whenever to have done really significant work backup to removable media.  Keep these in case you will need to install on a new hard drive or entirely new computer.

I tend to backup to removable media ( Floppy or CD )
When significant major events happen
Finished the loading of birds received last year for this years breeding.
Finished entering the data from a race series.
Have completed analyzing this year breeding pairs.

Most of us have only one hard drive.  To allow backups to the same hard drive an empty backup folder has been created under the NPED directory.  Backup to the included backup directory when your specific pain threshold has been hit.  Mine is about 4 hours.  If I have a total disaster I'm will to do about 4 hours of reentry.  This is also convenient. You might think it would be
Start after lunch and quit for supper. Just before quitting Backup the database to the provided folder.
If fact mine is more like "I am about to do some major work, Make a backup"

The backup procedure to the provide folder backup.
Holding the shift key down mark the to database files [ Ped_db.db ] and [ Ped_db.idx ] .
Still Holding the shift key down press the right mouse button and click copy

Double click on the Backup folder with the left mouse button.

The first time you run the folder will be empty
Right mouse click inside of the backup directory
Click Paste with the left mouse button.

You are done if this is your first backup in an empty directory.
If the file was previously backed up in this folder you will receive a warning dialog box like the one below.
If you are sure you marked the correct database files click [Yes to All.]
Notice the file named 'Ped_db.db' is in fact one of the 2 database files.
If not you can do each file individual by click YES
