Mr. Silas had served on the Harlem City Council and was a member of the Harlem Masonic Lodge #276. He was a member of the NARF Thomson Chapter and a member of the Harlem United Methodist Church. ... Strength and Brenda S. Roberson, both of Augusta; one brother, Gary Silas of Harlem; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy and Thomas Silas. Mr. Silas was a native of Glascock County and the son of Willie and Carrie Newsome Silas. He was retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years where he served in WWII and Korean War.
