Here's a poem by our class teacher Miss Elwyn Kelso which describes our class in brief.
This is the
class 12 of a special time
Between two centuries they crossed the line
The previous century ended in December
I'm sure the year 2000 they will remember
A Science course they had wanted to do
so they had enrolled in GBS for 10-2
To do well in Science was each one's aim
no matter what it cost in work and pain
English and Nepali they also had to do
The English teacher was their class teacher too
When their lessons finished, their company she missed
so in this poem about them she reminisced
They had gone to North India for eleven days
wanting to know something about Indian ways
Nainital, Delhi, Agra and Jaipur:
these were the places they went to explore
They discovered chapatis and rotis were everyday food
and rice didn't taste quite like it should
They had to pay for each and every plate of daal
and the water sometimes tasted like Jiwan Jal
All learned you must bargain before you buy
otherwise later with regret you would sigh
You must count the pieces before you leave the shop
to ensure you have both the bottom and the top
On Nainital Lake some boys were in a boat
but Rabindra nearly caused them all to float
They also went horse riding that same day
but some couldn't get their horses to obey.
From the cable car at the scenery they could look
Later in strange costumes, new identities they took
Some even lifted swords and attacked Amrit
Kamal tried rifle shooting and could targets easily hit.
Some of them made friends with a bear
causing others to stop and stare.
Ajit told jokes every day of the tour
We nearly left Bhim on the road to Gorakhpur
During the two years they spent in 10+2
many of their talents they put on view
They showed they could do many things well
and in some areas they were able to excel
In sport and athletics they achieved success
They often won awards in interhouse contests
In singing and music many displayed expertise
while others could dance with such skill and ease
in various performances their skills were employed
and in different fields their talents we enjoyed
Now some of their achievements we shall review
and be reminded of the things that they could do.
During the sports days they participated
For awards they were assessed and rated
In the javelin throw Shankar was the star
and Subin could also fling it far.
In the 100-metre sprint Manoj was seen to fly
though Nitin and Sajal also quickly sped by.
In the 400 metres Bhim was first up the track
but Shankar, Jhapindra and Suraj were close at his back.
In the 800 metres Suraj KC got second place
He showed such stamina in that very long race.
Sita also was seen to set a face pace
She was champion in the 400 metres race
In the triple jump Bhim flew through the air
causing others to stop and stare
but Amrit and Suraj KC competed with persistence
and also jumped over an impressive distance.
Subita could send the shotput far
Neelu and Lalita threw it with power
Many of them took part in a relay race
just to give their house a chance for first place
In games their ability was also seen
Some boys were on a winning basketball team
In football the Machhapuchre tournament they won
Suraj P was agile and very fast could run.
Subin could really make the ball soar
Bhim the goals ensured the opposition didn't score
Shankar could perform well in both football and TT
In basketball Sita, Subita and Lalita showed ability.
When it was time to make a speech
A very high standard they could reach
Maybe Amrit got more nervous than the rest
But in the English speech contest he was the best
Sovit spoke clearly and at a relaxed pace
Ajit had so much to say that he had to race.
Sita could express her opinions too
Neelu could put forward her point of view
Sajal made reports with humour and zest.
Bishow could his opinions confidently express
In the Nepali speech contest Anita got top mark
The judges liked her style and spark
When it was time to dance, the girls could delight
To watch them was a charming sight
In their colourful costumes dressed
by their gracefulness we were impressed.
The boys also could entertain us by dancing
Bhim and Shankar on the stage were prancing
but when Chandra's body, twisted and turned
we wondered what source of energy, his body burned.
Sovit, Nitin and Amrit really achieved fame
when the Minister of Education they decided to entertain
Suddenly to stardom these three rose fast
when Nepal Radio decided their music to broadcast
Then the rest of the class also wanted fame
so to interview them NTV came
Later they all appeared on TV
and the viewers were impressed by their vitality
When in 'Mero Geet Mero Sandesh' they took part
They were asked their opinions to impart
about what new idea they would pursue
if they had the power to make something new
Some said they would like to go back in time
and others wanted to go on-line
Some would like a new world to find
A few wanted to see into others' minds
Suraj KC and Anita nearly had a dispute.
About what value on girls should be put.
This disagreement came as no surprise
as quarrels in the class were on the rise
Tension between boys and girls was always there
much to their class teacher's despair.
Their lives they didn't want to share
of mutual dependence they were not aware
Among them talent was not all you could see
Each one had a different personality
Dhruba was a kind and friendly guy
Jhapindra was just a little bit shy.
Subash always had a ready smile
Sapana had time to stop and chat for a while
Phalita paid great attention to her horoscope
Bidur was usually a cheerful bloke
When Nitin lost his books, first he searched all around
then he offered a momo reward if they could be found
Sajal arranged his books in a systematic way
but Pradip's books all over his desk lay
When Shankar on classroom duty had been
you could be sure everything was clean
His artistic skill on the blackboard he displayed
Quotations were written in many different ways
Prem Nath in the world of imagination roamed
Bishow often expressed his thoughts in poems
Suraj KC liked to be in a photograph
Sovit's jokes made others laugh
Laxmi was a serious sensible type
He also happened to be very bright
To play his guitar Ajit didn't need to see.
Even blindfolded he could produce harmony
Jhapindra often studied during the night
And slept in the daytime when it was bright
Sapana appeared like her name - a dream
Tidy and organised she always seemed.
Suraj KC on a guitar could strum
Suraj Parajuli had a sense of fun
Sita was not afraid to speak out
In Nepali lessons they all liked to shout.
Dhruba had the patience needed for chess
Manoj helped when the sound system was in a mess.
He also was very good at art
In illustrations for classwork he did his part
Sajal liked to analyse what people do
He had his own philosophy too
He often just liked to be alone
Or back and forth with his camera to roam
In their hostel rooms the girls welcomed you there,
except for three who were always busy elsewhere.
Phalita's and Sapana's room so tidy would be.
Arpana in 'kurta suruwal' you would never see
All were part of the hostel scene
except for five who had a different routine
Nitin was frequently seen around
because he lived inside the compound
Ajit had tried hard from the hostel to escape
and finally he managed to make the break
He then came to school on a motor bike each day
but during the send-up tests he stayed away.
Bidur came with Bishow from Batelechaur each day
He often said they had been "on the way"
if they didn't reach assembly on time
and the class teacher noticed they weren't in the line.
Bishow also used to live in the hostel
but one night he didn't sleep well
While he was dreaming of bungee jumping
he woke up outside and his heart was thumping.
Subash lived just outside the school
He was a sensible lad as a rule
With many responsibilities, he had to work hard.
Maybe that's why he forgot his admission card.
As captains Pradip and Prem Nath both played a role
In keeping the class under control
Kamal was the only one whose tie was blue
As hostel captain he told the others what to do
Ajit thought we should be proud of him
The national anthem was sung patriotically by Bhim
Prakash was an individual kind of guy
He usually liked something different to try
In the academic field some showed excellence
in Chemistry Chandra had much competence
In Maths Lalita got very high scores
but Premnath managed to get even more.
Rabindra and Subita were good physicists
but to get top place Laxmi never missed
Pradip also in Physics could excel
While Arpana in Maths did extremely well.
Amrit and Bhim as linguists were able to excel
Prakash could write a detective story very well
Manoj's marks in language were usually high
Sajal was top in English, but Nepali made him sigh
So these 31 students were the molecules
which formed the class 12 compound in our school
Their time in class 12 went much too fast
and their stay in GBS so quickly passed
Their achievements were many; their faults just a few.
But when some wanted credit for work they didn't do
and others didn't admit to pranks they had played,
those were times when their class teacher was dismayed.
To be in their company was usually a pleasure
and the good times with them we shall treasure
During the India trip they were friendly and kind
and these are the things that will stay in our minds.
I trust they will remember GBS in future years
when they are pursuing different careers
and after they leave I hope some will find time
to send an e-mail or write a few lines.
In the 21st century what changes will they see?
Who can predict what their achievements may be?
For their future I wish them success
and pray that God will them very much bless.
