The Gazetteer & Business Directory of Bennington Co, VT for 1880-81, includes a history of the town of Pownal. On page 159 it states that "Captain Samuel WRIGHT, also Judge, son of General Josiah WRIGHT, was one of the delegates to the general convention held at Dorset, September 5, 1776."

The Samuel Wright that you are looking for was born Feb 10, 1744/45 in Northampton, MA and died Aug 9, 1815 in Oswegatchie (Ogdensburg) NY. He married (1) Sary Freelove Chilson 1761 in Northampton, MA daughter of Bariah Chilson and Patience Garnsey. He married (2) Susannah ?. He married (3) Mercy Buell on Mar 7 1784 in Montreal, Canada, daughter of Timothy Buell and Mercy Peters. He served as a Captain with the Green Mountain Boys under Ethan Allen in the expedition to capture Fort Ticonderoga. He served in the American Revolution listed on the D.A.R. Partriot Index page 765 as a Captain from Vermont. Samuel Wright and Obidiah Dunham were delegates at the general convention held at Dorset Sept 5, 1775. He was the Captain Samuel Wright who was one of the representatives from Pownal, he moved to New York before moving to Canada. About 1758(88?-gw-) he was found investing extensively in land in the township of Elizabethtown, Ontario, Canada. About the time of the War of 1812 he removed to St. Lawrence County, NY settling on the river road between Ogdensburg and Morristown where he died.
