Ladies and Gentlemen:
The possible development of the 4 hectare vacant property at Kenmore and Tyndall for
commercial and high density residential use has the local residents very concerned.
For over 20 years, Gordon Head residents have opposed the use of this property for
commercial purposes. The Gordon Head Local Area Plans of 1981, 1987, 1993 and 1997
have reflected this: "Gordon Head residents are strongly opposed to commercial use of
this property."
The Gordon Head Local Area Plan, Commercial Use Policies have restricted commercial
development to only those sites that are already zoned for commercial use. Please note
that this vacant property is zoned RS-6 (single family residential) and has recently
received a conditional subdivision approval for this use. Further, the latest Gordon Head
Local Area Plan identifies the area around this vacant property to already be within a
convenient walk to existing commercially zoned property.
A petition with the following wording is being circulated:
WE, the undersigned residents and taxpayers of Saanich, are in
favour of retaining the current zoning of RS-6 (Single Family
Residential) for the four hectare parcel at Tyndall Avenue and
Kenmore Road.
WE hereby petition and request that the Saanich Council as our
representatives reject and defeat any and all proposed amendments
that would change the current zoning to allow for commercial activity
or increased residential density.
Attached are 21 pages of this petition signed by 274 Gordon Head residents. This reflects
a view consistent with the statements and policies of the Gordon Head Local Area Plans
since 1981.
An overwhelming majority of the residents within the local neighbourhood of the subject
property are strongly opposed to any zoning change for this property. Please respect and
represent their interests in this matter.
Sincerely,
The Local Residents of the Tyndall / Kenmore / San Juan Development
