PETITION

"WE, the undersigned residents and taxpayers of Saanich, are in favour of retaining the current zoning of RS-6 (Single Family Residential) for the four hectare parcel at Tyndall Avenue and Kenmore Road. 


WE hereby petition and request that the Saanich Council, as our representatives, reject and defeat any and all proposed amendments that would change the current zoning to allow for commercial activity or increased residential density."

This petition was started in response to requests from the Saanich Planning Department, the Gordon Head Residents Association and the site developer, Mamic Development Ltd., for information about how the residents of Gordon Head felt this site should best be developed.  The petition was initiated by one resident, who lives beside the development site, circulating the petition to other residents also living beside the Kenmore & Tyndall property.  Interest in the petition grew very quickly as word spread about the petition, its wording and the nature of the possible development for the property.  

Soon more than 10 local residents were actively circulating the petition and discussing the alternatives for this property with their neighbours within the 400 meter impact zone.  Most local neighbours were quite familiar with the development issues regarding this property and were eager to sign the petition and show their support for its principles.  Those less familiar with the development issues were quite familiar with the Kenmore & Tyndall property itself and had very clear ideas on how they wanted to see the property developed.  

Over 95% of the local residents who discussed the principles of the petition were in agreement and signed it.  The petition has been submitted to the Saanich Council on two occasions, once on April 6th, 2001 after 274 local residents had signed it and again on April 18th, 2001 after an additional 130 local residents had signed.  This brings the total number of signatures on the petition to over 400 local residents.  The petition is continuing to be circulated and those new signatures will be submitted to Saanich Council in due course.  If you have not had the opportunity to sign the petition and are in favour of its principles, please click here to send your name address and phone number to g_h_residents@hotmail.com.  You will be contacted to arrange a convenient time for you to add your signature to the petition.
