2.5D Impostor Tree

This demo is made for "Hardware Accelerated Rendering of Foliage for Real-time Applications" SCCG 2003 paper by Gabor Szijarto and Jozsef Koloszar. (Best Paper Award)

Demo shows a detailed tree:

  • 19834 polygons branches

  • 46 polygons leaf

  • 70*512 = 35 840 leaves

  • equal to 1 668 474 polygons tree

It's a very beta version, thus maybe it has some bug. Moreover it is not optimized. All shaders are compiled by nVidia's Cg.

Moving in the program:

  • "z"-"x" : rotation

  • "r"-"f" : view point up - down

  • "1"-"2" : fov

  • "w"-"s" : forward - backward

  • "a"-"d" : left - right

  • "`" : save screenshot.

Requirement:

  • DirectX 9

  • Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP

  • Pixel shade 2.0 and Vertex shader 2.0 or above for hardware running. (e.g. ATI R3xx and nVidia NV3x )

  • It is working with reference driver (you must turn on at DirectX control panel).
