Powers:
Green Flame - Basically the same power he had with the power ring, except
it doesn't have any weaknesses and his power comes from within, this also de-aged
him to the point that her resembles a young adult in his mid-twenties. His power
comes directly from the Starheart, plus he was given some more power by Phantom
Stranger. This power also tends to give everything he creates a green flame
aura around it.
Note: Alan recently gave up a huge portion of his power when it went out of
control and as since returned to an older age, but is still apparently younger
then what he should be. Since being powered down, the previous vulnerability
to wood is back and its been theoried that Alan Scott's body may infact be made
entirely of the 'Green Flame'.
Equipment:
Power Ring - A ring that can create solid-light creations and the power
of flight, power comes from the Starheart (when the Guardians came to our galaxy,
they gathered up all the random magic and contained it in a meteor which became
the starheart). The ring had a 24-hour time limit and a weakness against anything
wooden. Ring was rendered useless by Extant in Zero Hour, was later given to
Kyle Rayner (Zero Hour #3), who lost it in battle with Parallax, and was later
retrieved by Parallax. Current Whereabouts are unknown.
Power Lantern - The lantern from which the ring uses to recharge itself.
This lantern is actually part of the Starheart, and it's from the lantern that
Alan Scott had formed his ring. The lantern, like the rest, is just a conduit
for the mystical energy, except the energy comes directly from the starheart
(not OA) could be used by Alan Scott without the ring. The Power Lantern was
absorbed into the Starheart in it's attempt to reclaim his power and take over
the universe, but was defeated by Jade (Heart of Darkness mini-series).
History:
Alan Scott was a passenger of a train when it crashed, whilst in the wreckage
he found a green lantern, which he used to escape from the crash (from which
he was the only survivor) he found that the lantern had some special powers.
He formed a ring with the power and adopted the name "Green Lantern". He then
help found both the All-Star Squadron and the Justice Society of America. Alan
retired in 1951 along with the rest of the JSA when asked to reveal his secret
identity by the House of Un-American Activities Committee. 9 years ago, the
JSA reunites to team-up with the JLA. 5 years later they journeyed to limbo
to prevent Ragnarok (the end of the world) and remained there for 2 years fighting
a 'never-ending' battle. This JSA was forced into retirement after several members
die or got reaged in the battle against Extant. Alan's ring's power got nulled
by Extant in this battle and Alan was powerless to stop his friends demise,
but Alan retained the power of the Starheart, and when finalyl actived went
on to fight as Sentinel.
Recent Developements:
Recently, Alan lost control over his powers. With help from his daughter Jade,
he managed to dispell most of his power, thus restoring him close to his right
age. But this isn't the end of Alan Scott's career. He has decided to keep watch
over the remaining power left in his battery and has returned to his original
costume, to become GREEN LANTERN once again(GL#110).
Alan is still keeping the name Sentinel, but is now doing the superhero bit
part-time. Alan recently reunited the remaining active JSA members to team-up
with the JLA to defeat a take-over from the 5th dimension (JLA#27).
After Wesley Dodds (Sandman I) death, they officially reformed a new modern
day JSA with orignal members and their silver age/modern day counterparts (to
fill in for the deceased/retired members), their first mission prevented Mordru
the Dark Lord from takening control over the newly reborn Dr Fate, who then
joined the JSA.
Just Recently, Alan has had to come face to face with his worst nightmare, as
his son Obsidian gave into his dark side and started
covering the world with darkness and hate. Alan defeated Obsidian,
but then Todd sent himself and his adopted father James Rice into the Shadowlands.
Althought Todd was aiming for Alan, James jumped out in front to save Sentinel.
Alan then visited Jennie to deliver the bad news, and grieve (JSA#7-9).
