Ed, while working for the Kendall company (creators of the Bauer & Black® brand), saw the need for a convenient and economical way for people to get the medical support hosiery they need. At the time, most support hose could be found at the local drugstore; this was quickly changing, however, as drugstores were moving away from the small mom-and-pop variety and becoming the large chains we have now. The chain drugstores were cutting back on their inventories and support hosiery was one of the first casualties.
