Along with being a man of God, I, Gary Meyer, have a rich background in music. I've spent much of my life listening and playing different kinds of music for all kinds of people and their interests. During that time, I've developed a vast library of prerecorded music and a tuned ear to make sure it sounds great.
DRUMMER - I starting my music career just before my ninth birthday. I had been listening to the hot jams played on the radio and wanted to get more involved in the music industry. I started playing the drums because I was greatly inspired when my relatives said that I was keeping a good beat to the songs that were played on an old record player. It was after twenty years of drumming that I finally decided to purchase the incredible sounding drum set of my dreams (in the photo above), a brand new Pearl Masters kit with the surrounding rack. I rarely play them anywhere but at my Lord God's house at the University of Hawaii in Manoa, Hawaii. Come out and join me for an up-beat Catholic Mass on any Sunday at 5:00 pm. See Map for details.
DISC JOCKEY – At about age nine, my brother Mark and I received a great media-related toy for Christmas that would prelude my showmanship. It was a "WKRP in Cincinnati" (like the TV show from the late 70's) record player and microphone combo unit. It was my first media player of any kind. I then started experimenting with the idea of becoming a radio DJ. Later, at about age fourteen, I was given the opportunity to really DJ a dance. Together with close friends Heath, Chris, and Andy, I DJed our school dances throughout junior high and high school. Our performances rocked church dances and dazzle out-of-town proms. Things were going great and I had a difficult time believing that it would come to an end at graduation. The fun certainly didn't stop. The spirit of DJing was so strong in me that I continued playing music for dances, parties, wedding receptions, and the base clubs as I served in the United States Air Force. During the last fifteen years of playing music for countless events, I have truly grown to love the challenge, service, technology, and adventure that comes with being in the music industry. In fact, after leaving active duty, I decided to pursue the entrepreneurial adventure of a career in professional disc jockey services. I currently reside in Hawaii and am now a licensed business man and a member of the American Disc Jockeys of America. I attribute the things that I've experienced and the things that I've learned to my faith in God. I know that I would have no direction in my life without His guidance. I have learned to hear him speak to me through music and especially through Christian music. Currently there are many popular Christian artists and musicians making their music available to warm our hearts with God's word of wisdom. I believe the demand for this music is growing and so I'm proud to announce that I offer the option of having Christian music in my disc jockey and karaoke services.
AUDIO ENGINEER – There had been different times in my musical journey in which I was asked to be in charge of running the sound. I started doing this back when I was playing the drums for bands during my time in the Air Force. I started giving this subject more serious consideration when I was asked to provide the sound system for such event as weddings and Christian retreats. Gradually, with years of experience and feedback from highly regarded professionals, I provided sound for some Christian Artists' Concerts. Now, I continue to improve the sound system and offer my customers the best sound possible.
SINGER & MC – I Have pretty much always been a singer. I started singing in church at an early age and continued singing through the present. During the karaoke explosion in the 1990s, I felt comfortable enough with my vocal performance to get on stage and sing a song or two every now and then. Later when I arrived in Hawaii where karaoke was more popular, I continue on the same path to vocalism. After going to some local tourist karaoke hangouts, I was given the opportunity to take over the show. Because of my experience DJing and MCing parties, this was a great step in the right direction. I jumped on that path and became one of few DJs in Hawaii that also hosts karaoke on a regular basis. I always sing the first song to get people interested in singing and to show them how much fun it really is. In my experience, it only takes the first time for most of those initially reluctant individuals to want to sing again and again. I offer so many different types of songs that nearly all the guests would be able to find something to sing. I believe that you don't have to be a fabulous singer to have fun. Many singers are just entertaining by putting plenty of energy into their song. Sometimes it may take a little while for guests to find there songs. During these shows, I would cycle in sets of upbeat music to keep up the tempo of the event. This music along with games like singing contests or "Name That Tune" make an unbeatable show. The audience sings along and really gets into it. They have so much fun that the they want to continue singing when it's time to end. I can relate to that feeling. .
I am, and have always been so completely blessed during my life of music, I hope that God will bless you too.
