After coming in second in the Whirl Cup Competition, Meowth goes to Cianwood City and gets a Storm badge from Gym Leader Chuck by using 'Jig' and 'Free'. Meowth: "Go Free!" Well, anyway, he won and traveled back to Olivine where he battled Jasmine, using Jig and Starmie. Jig's song never fails he just puts on his zounda and presto. They're a sleep. Then he switches in Starmie, who doses the opponent with water. Steelix didn't like that a bit, and so Meowth gained a Mineral badge. Then Meowth travels back to Ecruteak City. There he heads east to Mahogany Town and the Mahogany Gym. On his way there he meets the Ninetails from the ep titled "Just Waiting On a Friend." Meowth tells the dream team's goals and Ninetails decides to join.
When Meowth gets to the Gym the Gym leader isn't there, do to something happening north in lake of rage, so he travels there curious to find out what's happening. By the time he got there any incedent had be over and/or solved. It was quiet and no one was there. Seadra had been complaining about not getting to rest in some large body of water and Meowth didn't want to have come up there for nothing, so Meowth let Seadra out to relax and swim in Lake of Rage. He was about to let Starmie out too, but then a Gyarados popped out of the water; And unknown to Seadra who had almost swum to the other side of the lake, the Gyarados quickly used watergun on Meowth, who then blasted off for the first time in a long while. When Seadra turned around and came back to make one lap across the lake and back, Meowth's Seadra found Meowth missing and thought Meowth had abandoned him. Meanwhile, the blast off reminded Meowth of his days in Team Rocket; But while he was away his Seadra found a dragon scale and since he thought Meowth had 'traded him in for a different model' he evolved into Kingdra. Meowth returned eventually, to find an angery Kindra. He didn't understand why the Kingdra was mad but in desperation he explained to the Kingdra what had happened to him with the Gyarados, and that he didn't mean to be on anyone's territory; he just wanted to find his pal Seadra. Once Kingdra heard this, he told Meowth that he was Seadra, what had happened, and why he was acting that way. Kingdra returned to his pokeball, and Meowth headed back to Mahogany Town where he won his Glacier badge from Gym Leader Pryce using Ninetails and Starmie. Then he headed to Blackthorn city. There he met Clair the Blackthorn City Gym leader. Meowth showed her all his badges, and she thought it would be interresting to verse a Pokemon as a Pokemon trainer, so she accepted the challege, and they began to battle. Meowth used Starmie first against Clair's Kingdra. Flying around, using Rapid Spin if in a Twister and firing out electric and ice attacks, Starmie dodged or got out of (Rapid Spin) every attack shot her way. After tiring out Kingdra Starmie connected many attacks and Meowth won the round. Clair's Gyarados came out next. Having the ability to fly, Starmie easily connected two thunderbolts and won round 2 as well. Then Clair took out Dragonair and Starmie got to land an Icebeam before she was finally defeated. Meowth took out Free next and paralysed Dragonair and used confusion to bring Dragonair out of the water just to be thrown at the edge of the pool. The edge hurt Dragonair a lot and Dragonair made a big Splash falling back into the pool. With the last bit of strength Dragonair's head popped out of the water and used Dragonbreath. Butterfree barely dodged it and then Dragonair's head fell back down in the water and rose to the surface on unconscious. Clair: No, Dragonair are you alright? Return Dragonair, you deserve a good rest." Meowth won without even using his third Pokemon and Clair felt sorry for her dragonair, but was very impressed. She gladly handed over a Rising Badge and told Meowth that for a Pokemon he really deserved it. She also gave him a technical machiene which Meowth use to teach his Kingdra Dragonbreath.
