Artificial Insemination Through Unknown Donor
The people who have participated in this interview will remain anonymous.
Q. How hard or what were
the problems of doing the artificial insemination?
A. The woman who chose artificial insemination as the way of having a
child chose it after a string of bad relationships with male partners. She
was 39 years -old and wanted a child of her own. The most difficult part
has been the financial aspect of raising a child on one income. She is an
artist and her income is below the national average income. She also
mentioned that in the beginning family members were not supportive of her
decision, but after a few years of displaying the love and devotion to her child
her family has come to accept her decision.
Q. How does the child like the living arrangement?
A. The child is a very happy well adjusted child. He has never asked
about who his father is or where he is. The mother has said that she
overheard her son tell one of his friends that his dad was an astronaut and that
he was in space. She and her son now live with her female partner and have
been in this living situation for about two years. The son has enjoyed the
introduction of another adult into his life.
Q. And what are the joys of this arrangement?
A...The mother says that the joys of her situation in regards to her son are
that no one can take her son away from her, and the decisions of how her son
would be raised ate solely her own. She says that this has had an affect
on her relationship with her partner, because her partner does not want to
relinquish the responsibilities of raising her son to any one. She says
that she decided to have a child by herself and that is the way she intends to
raise her son, by herself. The joys that come from the bonds with her son
outweigh anything else she has experienced in life, but she is aware that on day
her son will want to know about who his father is, and she says she will cross
that bridge when they come to it.
