Dual WB LED LS mod
March 2002 by Jeff

Received my LED's yesterday morning (2/18/02). Did the mod last night on LS3 following all your instructions. I first used one LED and it was great but I was not satisfied. So I redrilled two other holes, like the mod submitted by steven, and installed two LED's. I did it all without solder (do not own one). To bridge the gap on the motherboard, I fashioned a small piece of metal from an old electronic toy's battery contacts and glued it with elmers glue and finished it off with crazy glue. On the led's I just wrapped the wire around each contact. It was not pretty but it works and the LS3 case covers everything nicely.

WOW! Let me say that I have never seen such clarity from an external light attachment. The colors were vibrant, not washed out like what is shown and verified of the Afterburner.

Just wanted to send you some pics of my first attempt at photography and a not so good walk thru.

Did all mods and hacks suggested by you. Did not want to send pics of the internals as they are not pretty. As I mentioned earlier I do not own soldering equipment.

First pic illustrates sanded LED locations (similar to variation submitted by steven in tips and info section.). If you notice the LED's are partially sticking out of the holes. I did that to maximize the height of the LED's. Also they are not pointed straight out but slightly two degrees outward to maximize the light to edges of the screen. They are held in place with crazy glue (be careful when using crazy glue let it dry fully before continuing). Oh, about the foil tape. I had some lying around the garage and decided to use it instead of painting it like suggested by stan in your tips and info section. They only serve as anti-glare, not to assist in reflecting light (doesn't work).

Second pic: Trying to show the spread and brightness of the lights. The whole screen as well as the corners is nicely lit. This pic really doesnt do it justice. I will send a better pic when I master the use of this 5 mega pixel camera.

An anti-glare strip is a must have as this light is so bright. Use suggetions from the tips and info section. Do it anyway you are comfortable with as long as it is a flat dark color strip. For my anti-glare strip I ran some self adhesive film through my laser printer (printing a black picture)and cut to the shape of top of GBA screen.

To play the GBA with this light is easy. Just angle the GBA so the light is shining on the anti-glare strip with the light shield folded back as far as possible.
