Pelican Light Shields Recalled?

7-18-01 An Official reply from Pelican Accessories has been received by a reader,
Cody Davis, through e-mail regarding the recall rumour:

"There is no recall, but we are exchanging all Light shields that the light has burn out for free, you can send the light shield to this address and it will be exchanged for you,

Pelican Accessories
1840 east 27th St.
Vernon, CA 90058

Thank you. "

So there you have it! Thanks for the info Cody! If anyone sends their shield in for a replacement could you please e-mail me and let me know what kind of bulb they've replaced the original with? Thanks!

7-18-01 Received another story from a reader this morning :
"PS my local store had it yanked out and in the Claims area in the back of the store, next to a stack of recalled infaint carrier seats were some LS Advance with "Do not sell" note on it. Later it was gone and no one was telling me why. "
7-17-01 I received an e-mail today from a reader, Mark, suggesting a possible recall of the Pelican light shield advance accessory. Message is posted below:
" I would just like to add that i have had two light shield's burn out and they have been both all original. I had them both burn out when i was playing Zelda Links Awakening. I cant seem to find them anymore around here. The guy at EB told me they have been recalled as a manufacteur defect whether that is true or not i am not sure. Just thought i would add to the other people who have had their lights burn out. "
Oddly enough, I haven't been able to find a single light shield locally for about a week or two. I have no idea if there is any truth to this, but it certainly seems like a possibility taking into consideration the number of e-mails I've received lately asking me where to find a Pelican light shield. Here is an example e-mail I've just received:
" Two weeks ago, I had seen tons of Light Shields at the local Electronics Boutique and Software Etc, yet last week they had absolutely none. I ended up buying one on eBay because they're completely gone, except I still see them available in the GBA Survival Kit by Pelican at Target.

-Matt "
I decided to do a little detective work, but all I could come up with were the following 2 links to 2 of the 3 colors of Pelican Shields that had the status of "backorder" attached to them. I must have searched at least 7 different retail websites(walmart, kmart, ebgames, funcoland, express.com, buy.com, amazon.com) and the Pelican LS advance was nowhere to be found. That's not to say that it's been recalled, it's very possible that the places I checked never even offered the Pelican LS. Here are the ebgames links:

EBgames.com: Arctic Pelican LS is on "backorder"

EBgames.com: Glacier Pelican LS is on "backorder"

So I would definitely say that at this point the "recall" is a RUMOUR. If anyone can share a similar experience or has additional info Please mail me. Update: more than a couple people have heard this rumour and there is currently a thread at the IGN GBA board regarding the poor lightbulb that is used in the Pelican LS, find it here.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pelican Accessories has been watching this site and the submitted info from readers for a while now. Think about all of the FREE research and development they could find here!

I also wouldn't be surprised in the LEAST if they have plans to eventually re-release the LS with a white LED.

Time will tell.
