Review of Wormlight Plus by wzc89
This light is availble at most game retailers. EB, Toys R us. These are only a FEW stores that these lights are available.
Features from Package:
- “Super White Light” LED for superior clarity
- Advanced LED requires no batteries
- New Pass-Thru connector for multi-player link games
- Perfect for play in low light and travel conditions
Physical Properties
Well, I have to hand it to Nyko. They made one of the most flexible lights out there. The Wormlight is a rubberized STIFF wire, with a “head” which contains a white LED. The head has a textured diffusing lens. The LED itself isn’t that white. I opened up the Wormlight’s head the other day and to my surprise, it is the EXACT same kind as the Glowguard LED. It even had the blue “spot” light. I am guessing that since Nyko licensed Interact’s Glowguard, yes you heard me right, Nyko licenced Interact to use their “pass-thru” techonology, so that is probably why they have the same LED.
The Wormlight’s wire itself is mounted onto a base which connects into the GBA’s link port. It does just like the LS and Glowguard take power from the GBA. The base comes with a passthru so you can play multiplayer games as Nyko said it would. When the wormlight came in the package it was coiled for easy packaging but you need to stretch it out and bend it back a bit before it is worth using. If you need any help on angling the wormlight email me at wzc89@hotmail.com
Performance
As I said, the LED is the same as the Glowguard’s but is it better? Well lets see, the Glowguard never had a diffusing lens. But the Wormlight does. So the Wormlight although making the LED dimmer, spreads it out more evenly and eliminates the blue “spotlight” I decided to play with my wormlight one night, and I have to admit it wasn’t that bad. The light isn’t as bright as my 2 LED modded LS, but what product on the market right now is? :) The only problem I found with the wormlight is that it has a huge glare due to the diffusing lens. It is a bright white circle. People call it the “sun” But if you know how to angle it then you should be fine. Angle it to the top black border.
Conclusion
For $9.99 ($14.99 CDN) the wormlight is a good buy. Although it is dimmer than the Glowguard it is still brighter than the Spylight Protector. If you can’t mod a light shield (either with a glowguard or Radioshack LED) then get a wormlight if you want a really uniform light. But if you want a little bit more brighter then get the Glowguard.
Pros:
-Flexible
-VERY COMPACT
-Easy to remove
-Pretty Bright compared to the other lights out there
-Uses LED
-Passthru
Cons
-Needs Angling
-Has a HUGE glare
