Subwoofers Subwoofers are the foundation of the entire theater system, just like the Bass section of an orchestra. Without them, sound output would seem flat and dull. Regular subwoofers fill in the needs for "felt" bass when watching movies, but to truly experience the T-Rex's monstrous footstep thumps, or to actually enjoy replaying the THX(TM) clip over and over, subwoofers that have high wattage capabilities and very low frequency responses are required. Nowadays all Subs are amplified to boost sound output. The most efficient frequency response for low bass is between 20 and 200. 20 Hz Minimum Frequency response is great in a very good sub while 30 is normal. The high frequencies should be pulled down to only 150 at most. You can let the towers and centrals output frequencies beyond 200. Normal Sub Wattage varies from 200(decent) to about 800. (Menu)
