The Christian Corner's Easter Perspective
What Easter is not
Easter is not a secular holiday that revolves around a mythical bunny that hides eggs in the homes of children around the world. While my
household does have an Easter egg hunt, we hold it on Saturday and make sure that our children have no confusion between the secular (the
Easter bunny) and the real meaning of Easter, the ressurection of Jesus Christ.
Easter also is not about getting a pretty Spring outfit to wear at church on Sunday morning. These are ways that Satan tries to deflect
our focus from the true meaning of Easter.
What Easter is
It is the most important event in the history of mankind, and it is a celebration of the defining moment of the Christian faith. Easter is the day we celebrate
the fact that Jesus rose from the death that he suffered on the cross, in fulfillment of the scriptures, having paid in full the penalty of our sins.
Being a "Christian" is not about just going to church or trying to live a good life. While important, they do not result in our eternal salvation and
can (and unfortunately) does seem to be the extent of the Christian life for millions of men and women, yet can be pursued without any
true spiritual connection to Jesus Christ. Being a Christian means trusting in what Jesus did for us by dying on the cross and rising again on the third
day. It means that we are really willing to deny our fleshly ways and will follow Him and his teachings. If you are not sure about what I have said
here, then follow this link to find out about the good news of Jesus Christ. The old saying "good little boys
go to Heaven and bad little boys go to Hell," could not be further from the truth. It is the bad boys who realize that they are bad and that
the only way that they will get to Heaven is if Christ helps them. Sadly, many of the good boys trust in what they have done in order to gain
admittance to heaven.
