| The Sarasota Court Watch is a grass-roots effort of neighborhood residents and business persons committed to providing a safe living and working environment for all citizens of the community. The organization started with several individuals espressing common frustration with a criminal justice system that provides little or no responsibility for habitual criminal activity by street thugs and prostitutes. The organzation took shat as individuals joined with similar frustrations,all with a desire to become pro-active for positive changes. Community forums with representatives of criminal justice agencies reinforced the need for action by citizens negatively affected by continuing criminal activity. It was clear that cooperation among all participants was necessary to achieve successful results. Sarasota Court Watch was formed in early 1997. Meetings held with law enforcement, prosecution and judicial representatives positioned the group as a significant player. Volunteers were recruited. Appearances of volunteers in the courtroom began, and judges tool notice. | |||
