This is where I will place the names and opinions of lesser known and/or newer groups. I will try to be fair in my opinions and give you info on the groups such as releases and also provide links which will be signified by the blinking lights.
HALF-BREED:
Half-Breed is the new House Of Krazees under a different name. The group consits of 2 members: Skrapz and Sol(A.K.A. R.O.C.) They are under a different name due to Latnem Records who own the rights to the name House Of Krazees and will not give up the copyrights to the name or the music. So Sol and Skrapz left to form Virus Independant.....the best God Damn horrorcore lable in existance. They have 2 releases by the names of "Serial Killaz" and "Kontamination". Spread the Virus!
Solace:
Heavy sludge type rock for the fuzz rock fan that likes a bit heavier flavor. Includes Tom, formally of Godspeed, and is definitly worth the listen.
Karma To Burn: Sort of hard to describe these fellows. Thier self titled first album was on Roadrunner and the singer left after it's release. They decided they didn't need a singer and decided to make an instramental album, which Roadrunner didn't agree with. They did eventually release a instramental record, "Wild Wonderful Purgatory", on MIA Records. If you like Rob Zombie's voice, check out the self titled. If you just like heavy grooves, check out "Wild Wonderful Purgatory".
Spirit Caravan: These doom/desert rockers are very local still, but thier following is growing. Includes ex-members of Doom legends The Obsessed. With a distinct heavy Sabbath influence, they bring a much needed return to classic rock feel. Look for thier debut "Jug Fulla Sun" and the new e.p. "Dreamwheel".
Nebula: The guitarist and drummer from Fu Manchu are the founders of what we now know as Nebula. In the same style as Fu Manchu and Kyuss, they are yet another desert rock phenom.
Fu Manchu:
Desert rock at it's finest. Fans of Kyuss, Queens Of The Stoned Age, and classic rock such as Sabbath should like this. After Ruben and Eddie left to form Nebula, Scott Hill found a new bassist and employed none other than Brant Bijork(KYUSS) to take over the drums. They have a few cds(6-7) so if you like it, you have some catching up to do. They should have a new one out in Jan 2000.
Dog Fashion Disco:
Crazy circus rock. Kinda like Manson meets ICP. Very different stuff with a distinct groove. Mixing heavy music with the likes of jazz, ska, and just fuct stuff. They have 2 albums, "Embryos In Bloom" and "Experiments In Alchemy".
House Of Krazees: If you like NATAS, Esham, or Twiztid.....get your hands on some H.O.K. They once consisted of R.O.C., Mr. Bones, and Hectic but now consist of only R.O.C. and Scrapz. Mr. Bones and Hectic are now known as Jamie Madrox and Monoxide Child(Twiztid). They have 9 albums, 6 of which include Bones and Hectic. You can still aquire most of this material from the Hot Hits site, there is a link below.
Kyuss:
Best band to ever exist.....in my opinion. Been around a LONG time, but never a high profile band. They have 6 albums that are as follows: "Sons Of Kyuss", "Blues For The Red Sun", "Wretch", "Split E.P. with Queens Of The Stone Age", "And The Circus Leaves Town", and "Welcome To Sky Valley". They are all awesome, although "Sky Valley" and "Blues For The Red Sun" are easily my favorites. They are along the lines of a Monster Magnet meets Faith No More, at least that's the way some people describe them. The band broke up in '95, but you can still get a part of their legacy.
Godsmack:
Not too bad. I thought it would be another clone band, but I was happy to find a good level of imagination. They are a cross between Helmet and Alice In Chains....which equals a good album. They only have one album that I know of wich is the self titled '98 release.
NOTHINGFACE: Pretty damn heavy shit. Might be hard to find since they are on the small lable MAYHEM. Kinda like Sevendust meets Coal Chamber, so like I said.....pretty damn heavy and pissed. They have two albums that I know of, one of which being the '98 release "EVERDAY ATROCITY".
Black Eyed Peas:
This one is for fans of Tribe Called and Digable Planets. Groovy tracks under a smooth flow, Hip-Hop reborn. The album "Behind The Front" is a melow blend of Hip-Hop and jazzy lounge music.
Snot:
Hard and groovy is how I describe these guys. The newest album "Get Some" is full of variety and energy. If you like hard music, but not only hard music, check this one out.
Pop Will Eat Itself(P.W.E.I.): Here is a group that will please those of the Nine Inch Nails persuasion. They have at least two albums but the one I suggest is the 1994 "Dos Dedos Mis Amigo". No, it's not in spanish. What it is is a industrial/techno hybrid that even I like, and I HATE techno. Trent Rezor helped out a lot with this album and therefore it has a Nails feel.
Stuck Mojo:
This is another one of those underground Rap/Metal bands. I saw these guys open for Clutch, and I thought it was cool. They are all into pro-wrestling and shit. Their albums include "RISING", "SNAPPIN NECKS", "VIOLATED", "HVY1", "DECLARATION OF A HEADHUNTER", and "PIGWALK". If you like rowdy rap/metal type music, check this one out. They put on a good show too, they turned off all the lights while the singer took a power saw to a piece of metal. The sparks were pretty cool, and I thought it was a creative thing to do.....wich is hard to find it seems.
TWIZTID:
I like this one. It' s just fucked sounding most of the time, good "dirty and gritty" sound. Like Violent J from ICP once said..."we look at music like movies." "Sometimes you wanna hear a comedy or a drama, other times a horror flick is good....that's what we are". Twiztid definitly fits that m.o. They are on Psychopathic Records and were formaly 2 of the 3 members of "House Of Krazees". Check out the album "MOSTASTELESS".
Funkdoobiest: If you like Hip-Hop you should check this out. They have 3 albums which are "Which Doobie You Be?" in 1993, "Brothas Doobie" in 1995, and "The Trouble Shooters" in 1997. They aren't as herb related as the name implies, although they are friends of Cypress Hill. It's is a different type of Hip-Hop, for those that think Puffy and Masta P can go suck a dick.
B.T.K.: These guys like to mix Hip-Hop with all kinds of stuff. It is different I'll give them that, but they only have like 3 songs that I can get into. The songs I am refering to are on the self titled '96 album. If you like Beck, you should dig this.
EVERLAST Everlast is the former leader of House Of Pain. "Whitey Ford Sings The Blues" is his first post-H.O.P. album, and boy is it a shock to hear. It is alot of acoustic guitar, which he plays, and that is FAR from the H.O.P. thing. I think it is bad-ass, check the link below for more info.
DICE: He has three albums, one of which produced by ESHAM. They are: "Da Fourty Made Me Do It", "THENIEGHBOORHOODSHITTALKA"(produced by ESHAM), and "Black Monday". THENIEGHBOORHOODSHITTALKA also has Esham on the 10th track. Dice is more like traditional gangsta rap, but with a much more underground sound.
Kid Rock: Kid Rock is one of the more diverse types of music I have ever heard. Everything from rap to the blues. He was a guest on the ICP album "Carnival Of Carnage", and has 4 albums and 1 EP. He's gonna blow up....finally, and I will just love seeing all those people say things like "I got this CD by some new guy named Kid Rock".....he's been around since you were suckin your mommas titty son. Look for the new album "Devil Without A Cause".
"EARLY MORNIN STONED PIMP"
Coal Chamber:
I tell ya, this is good shit. They are for the Korn and Deftones fan, but don't worry, they aren't clones of either one. They have only the 1997 "Coal Chamber" release that I know of.......I strongly suggest this one.
Prong: These guys have been around along time. Five major releases and a few lesser known ones. They are a thrash type of band, but on the newest album "Rude Awakening", they have a more industrial sound. If you can, listen to the album "Beg To Differ"....a Prong classic.
Workhorse Movement: This is a band that is little known but has a strong following around Detroit, and it has grown since being signed to Roadrunner records. "Dopeamine" was thier debut album, and has since been joined by "Rythm and Soul Cartel" and "Sons Of The Pioneers". Thier sound, to me, is truly unique. In a way kinda like modern day hippies, somewhat like QOTSA, preaching of harmony and the "spirituality" of sex.....although the music itself is quite aggresive. Very groovy and highly recomended for just about anyone.
NATAS/Esham
: Esham is a rapper from Detroit that you ICP fans should know from "Taste" and "Chop-Chop". Together with Mastamind and TNT they form NATAS. This is some of the most raw and ruthless rap ever created. They call their style "acid rap" and "suicidalism", and constantly question the existance of God. They push the idea that if God does exist, than he has a twisted mind and that the bible causes a state of closed mindedness. If you are easily offended when comes to religion, than this is not for you. Over all, this is some of my favorite music. I do not have pics, so I will list some albums from each.
Sevendust:
My introduction to Sevendust came during the "Ladies Night In Cambodia" tour with Clutch and Limp Bizkit. I tell ya......I was quite impressed. They have a singer that used to be in an r&b group that can really belt it out when he needs to. Songs such as "Too Close To Hate" and "Terminator", wich where writen about their expeirence in the olympic village during the boming, show a lot of power and heart. If you like heavy music, this worth checking out. Click on my link to see more about them through TVTrecords.com.
CORE: "Somewhere between Cream and Hendrix lies CORE". I once read that about this band. Very good music that falls into the "fuzz rock" category. If you like Sabbath, Hendrix, Cream, Kyuss, or The Atomic Bitchwax.....get some CORE. Their albums are "Hustle Is On" and "Revival".
The D.O.C.: This guy been around for a long time but is still kinda on the D.L. Those of you that listen to N.W.A., probly know who he is. His debut "No One Can Do It Better", is a Hip-Hop classic. His latest album "Helter Skelter", has a totaly different feel to it. All you acid heads out there that like rap should like this one. Overall, I think that if you like older Hip-Hop, the debut is for you, and even though I like "Helter Skelter" I suggest that you listen to it before you buy that one.
Helmet: Helmet is a group with a very rough and unique sound. They have several albums that include: "Strap It On", "Meantime", "Betty", and "Aftertaste". To my knowlage the group has broken up, but some of the guys formed another band named Handsome. I feel that Handsome fails in comparison to Helmet, but they do have some real good songs as well. I hate to put music in a catagory, but for the sake of trying to describe thier sound.....well I can't. I can tell you it's different, and they are not a rap group.
Gwen Mars: Here is yet another group that has been around a while. They are a band with a "Deftones" feel. The 1995 "Magnosheen", is a album with many different sounds and vibes to it. They sing about everything from concieted people to cries for help. For those in the hunt for a fairly dynamic band, you might wanna hook this one up.
I will try to link you to other sites having to do with artists featured on this page. If I'm having trouble though, try The UBL.
