This little cutie is Jessa, a young crested
gecko, who I also purchased from Hilde at Woodland Edge Herps,
this time at the April 7 2002 Reptile Swap. She was born on
March 1, 2002, so she's still just a baby! I'm not even sure
if she's a female or not, but since I want her to be, I
decided to try and brainwash her into it by giving her a
girl's name :) Since she's about 6 months old now, and she
hasn't shown any signs of developing any "family jewels",
there's a fairly good chance that my wish has come true ;)
I haven't really tried handling her too much -- she jumps all over the place every
time I put my hands into the tank! I did have to take her out
the other day to clean her cage though, and that was quite the
experience -- she's a slippery little thing! She's VERY soft
though -- I was expecting her feet to be sticky or something,
since they crested geckos have the little pads so they can
climb walls and stuff, but they're actually quite soft, and so
is the rest of her body... definitely a change from the more
pebbly feel of a leopard gecko. Anyways, I'm thrilled with her
so far, and I can't wait until I can handle her a bit more --
supposedly they calm down quite bit with age! :)
Update
Jessa is now known as Pandora, and
lives in a new home. I recently moved across the country, and
wasn't able to bring her with me. She's got a great new mom
though, and is definitely loved and spoiled like she should be
:) Apparently she's also become accustomed to being handles,
which is great. She also has a handsome boyfriend all lined up
for next year -- I might even get one of the babies when the
time comes :) I do plan on getting another crested gecko at
some point -- these guys are just too cute and funny not to
have one around :)
