The singer duo has opened new vistas to the Bengali audience. The couple has walked with many processions, joined their voices with them. But that did not turn their songs into sloganeering. They have chosen to tread on soil and dust. Bipul is the composer. However he is a poet per se with seven collection of poems at his credit. But still song is his first love. Born in Dhakuria, at South Calcutta, he spent his adolescence and youth in Bankura and North Bengal. His first inspiration came right in childhood days, when he used to listen to the loud melodies of old Durwan of his school, Ramjatan. He started to write poems during the turbulent days of mid-seventies. In 1977, he wrote and composed his first song - ' Say! Should I forget the road stained with my comrades blood?" Joined the movement for release of the political prisoners and composed songs like " …they are brothers of Bhagat Singh....brothers of Khudiram". In 1980, his song " pick up the lashes of the opposition" was included in an anthology of anti-imperialists songs from the third world by Thirld World Unity Committee and represented by IPANA, a Canada based organisation. In the late-eighties, the workers of the Indo-Japan Steel Ltd. Workers Union, West Bengal, published a disk comprising two of his songs. Anushree, successful alumni of Dakshini, a noted music school, started with Rabindra sangeet in her melodious and incomparable voice. Later the folk lifes of Bengal attracted her to shift her choice to folk tunes… Singing of poems followed soon. Her poetic instinct took shape in Bipul's songs. Song of Anushree and Bipul springs from a deeper feeling of a poet or person in search of truth behind truths. Their song comprised of silent pathos and voiced ecstasy of common people, resonate their rancor and resentment, upholds their vigor and reveal the vileness of the ruling echelon. They have been conferred the Humanists' Award in 1996.
