War On Terrorism: An Opinion
By Cameron This so called 'War On Terrorism' against the so called 'Axis Of Evil' has gone too far in my opinion. It seems that George W. Bush is using it to achieve something else. To get high popularity ratings. To get re-elected. To remove his political enemies from office. Don't get me wrong, I think getting rid of the Taliban was a noble thing and that America had every right to hunt down those responsible for Sept. 11th. But don't you think that murdering hundreds of innocent Afghan citizens is going too far? Don't you think that America apologizing by saying 'Oops, well at least we're achieving a greater purpose' is unacceptable when they just 'accidentally' dropped a bomb on a Red Cross Aid Station, or they just killed some Northern Alliance fighters? I do. George W. Bush knows that this is excellent and is mainly responsible for his sky high ratings. Before Sept. 11th, he stank. His environmental record was horrible, and no real change had come about, and everyone knew it. But know that we're in a time of war (a war Bush invented) he looks like the proud, strong, American military commander leading his country to victory. And even though we've kicked the Taliban out of Afghanistan, liberated their country and caught quite a few terrorists, this war on terror isn't over yet. Oh no, Bush tells us, "there are still terrorists and evildoers hiding in the shadows". Oh deary me, I better check under the bed before I go to sleep every night! Basically, Bush has laid down grounds for a neverending war. If we think it's over he can just claim, there is still evil lurking in the world. It's pretty difficult to declare war on 'terror' and 'evil'. They're not people or countries or places. Iraq itself is not evil. Certain people in Iraq are evil, but not the whole country. Yet now Bush is planning to begin an attack against Iraq, even though there is no proven connection between September 11th and Iraq. Be afraid world, be very afraid. The United States military is being built up to horrifying new highs and getting ready for a massive attack. Watch your back, they're getting ready to poke their noses where they don't belong, and mind other people's business for them (think Vietnam). Written May 13th, 2002 |
