Cam's Bookshelf

Updates

Wednesday, September 28th, 2005

Somehow, 14500 hits. Why? I have no idea what makes anyone come to this page. This continues to be a parking spot for my list of CDs, and that's about it. Livejournal equals greater than Geocities.

12250 visitors. Quite shocking, considering I never update, and there's not much of interest on this page. I changed the colours and font, fixed some hideous ugly code. At this point, pretty much the only page edited regularly is the Music page. I haven't been reading much lately, so who knows if the books will ever be finished.

10250 visitors! And little new content. Am constantly fiddling with the Fanlistings page, giving up fanlistings I don't have time to update, slowly adding a few book reviews.

Happy new year! We've now had 8800 visitors. Thanks to a renewed interest in Neopets, I have started updating that section of the site again. A comprehensive look at how to get rich quick. I also deleted the answers to games that don't exist anymore.

I redesigned the CSS file that changes how every page on the site loads. I think it looks more modern and simple. The parchment was getting old (ha). Some pages need to be changed so they fit the new theme and colours. In the interest of record keeping, I have saved the previous layouts here and here. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! And congratulations to myself on getting 125 hits per week and reaching the 8000 milestone.

It never ceases to amaze me how easy it is to forget about this website. I have been doing little updates, but have forgotten to document them here - small tune ups and gradually adding pages that I said I'd create long ago (Printz winners and honour books and finally posting my writings that there have been links to for months). I have added cover art to the Newbery Medal Winners page. I have cleaned up My Fanlistings page and deleted ones I don't like anymore. It also seems that guestbooks are on the way out, as no one has signed mine. That's okay. I think I might delete the link to it, which now appears on every page thanks to my "attach a text file" technology that I will probably never grow out of (no burning rush to be innovative and learn new HTML).

6750 visitors! We're now averaging over 100 hits a week, thanks in part to my revamped books section and the popularity of several fanlistings. I have given up the Chicken Run, Flute, Skittles, Sour Patch Kids and Archie Comics fanlistings because they were a lot of work for no rewards and I didn't feel that I was a big enough fan to be running them anyway. Visit Site Map to view my remaining fanlisting collective. The number of book reviews has tripled and is still growing. Over a month ago, I deleted Briar's Fantasy Kingdom, my "fan shrine to fantasy writer Tamora Pierce" in favour of just book summaries and reviews like any other author. My content was not particularly original and wasn't being updated enough. I also cut back on outdated Neopets content.

I did it! I launched Cam's Bookshelf an entirely new books section, sorted by author and title. I also made a better guestbook, found here; please re-sign it because old entries are now gone. I also cleaned out unneeded files and pages and added a Recent Reads page, Best Books for Young Adults book reviews and did a major update on the Site Map.

I regret neglecting this page so badly. I've had it almost 2 and a half years, and I still have yet to bring some of the older pages into the new layout/colour theme. I'm revamping book reviews. When I first wrote them, my idea of a review was to gush about the book in a summary I summarized from Amazon even if I didn't think the book was that great. Not anymore! I was thinking of creating a "What I'm Reading" page, but it too would be sorely neglected and would only work if I updated it all the time. As I write this, I look at the old updates and see that we got 3000 hits a year ago. In a matter of days, we'll have 6000. I'm impressed. And I'm adding a fanlisting collective, a page of all the CDs I own, a travels page, more fanlistings and a bunch of new authors pages and improved old ones.

Friday, March 14th, 2003

I have been doing a whirlwind of updates lately. I added 6 new pieces of writing to the Writings page. I now host 7 fanlistings here, and have a fanlistings page for all of the ones I belong to. I'm also planning on deleting Quick Picks (because no one even knew they existed) and turning them into regular book reviews. I wish more people would take a look at the books section. It takes a lot of time to write compared with other pages, and I have to host graphics for every book I feature. I also deleted some guestbook entries because Geocities came up with a stupid rule that you can only have 50. So now the total number of entries is x + 11 (algebra is invading my brain).

Almost 4500 vists. And the site has had its second anniversary. I've added an essay about War on Iraq, a history of the site, a fanlistings page, and divided up "About Me" into seperate sections to tell more about myself in an organized way. I'll also be updating the Writings Page with my published work. I was thinking of switching the site over to laril.net but it would be too much work and I can't stand FTP programs, so for now I can tolerate the ads on Geocities. I hope you can too. If not, get a pop up stopper from downloads.com. They're great.

Just so everyone knows, I'm still alive. I'm just really busy. Which isn't an excuse for not updating, but I tend to forget all about my website. I'm kind of stuck as to what direction I should head in with this. There's plenty of stuff I could add, most notably in the books section, I have read over a thousand books in my lifetime, yet I've only written about 50 of them. I think I might design a new layout. I wish I had been organized about this when I started the site 2 years ago. Then I could record which layout number this is and I would have kept the HTML code for the old ones. But I didn't. Oh, I did update some things. The Tamora Pierce area.

Sunday, August 25th 2002

We have almost 3500 visits total. I feel touched that people like my site that much. I am slowly fixing up Briars Fantasy Kingdom. I wrote 2 essays, one on Alanna and the other on Daine. People were asking me what my opinions were on some issues, so there you go. I'm planning on writing a lot more book reviews soon, even though it's not a very popular part of the site. Coming soon, reviews of: Lady Knight, The Circle Opens, All American Girl, The Princess Diaries, Angus Thongs And Full Frontal Snogging and more.

I have very good news. I fixed all the broken links on the Writings page and now you can access all of Betrayal and Bellmount Wood without any hassle. It took me forever to link everything together and involved a lot of copying and pasting to get it to break after each paragraph, but it's done. Now all of you who complained about broken links *coughHeidicough* have something to rejoice about. I also changed the font on all the Tamora Pierce pages, added counters to some pages that didn't have any, cleaned up HTML on Neopets pages, wrote Tamora Pierce's biography, made a page of future cover art for Tamora Pierce's books, added a Tamora Pierce News page and created a webpage for the Sheroes Book Club, you can find it from the Site Map.

We got 3000 hits today. Which is excellent, because I got 1000 in such a short period of time, only 2 months, compared to the 14 months it took to get the first 2000. I changed the layout today, it has new colours and a new theme which I call mango.

Monday, May 13th, 2002

I have neglected to update this page for a long time. But believe me, I've been updating many pages. In case you haven't noticed, all the pages look completely different because we have a new format. The Tamora Pierce section has been renamed "Briar's Fantasy Kingdom" and the RPG has been closed. The forums are still open in case anyone wants to post, but no one posts The good news is that the site got 2000 hits about a month ago. We're steadily climbing thanks to all the visitors who come for the Tamora Pierce section from SheroesCentral. Eventually, I'll write more book reviews because I've been reading a lot, but I haven't added anything new in that section for a while. The Neopets section is derelict, I haven't been there for almost a year and I have no idea if the hints are still accurate or not. I'm leaving it up anyway. Both Awards pages have been taken down. Nobody ever applied for an award, and we never won anything either. All in all, I'm feeling industrious and I'm slowly going through each page and adding the right tags to make it load faster and cleaning up all the clutter. By the way, if you have a newer browser the whole site looks WAY cooler.

Friday, February 15th, 2002

I wrote an opinion essay about the War On Terrorism, you can find it on the Writings Page. I also added a Site Map which includes links to pages hosted on my site, mainly involved with other things I am associated with. I have created a quiz to find out which character from Friends you are. Click Here To Take It. You can also find out Which Tortallan Character You Are Here.

Sunday, January 13th, 2002

I rearranged a lot of pages and changed filenames. You may notice the navigation is a bit different, it now includes links to Quickpicks and Updates.

Saturday, January 12th, 2002

I updated the About Me page which was getting a little outdated, I've changed a lot lately. I also updated the Links page with some of my favourite sites and it got a little more organized. Over the holidays I was also uploading some more fanfiction and I am continuing to do so. Don't worry Betrayal is first on my priority list. I just discovered this cool archives site which shows what my page used to look like. It is amazing to note the changes. One doesn't work because I have deleted the former frames used but this one does. June 10th, 2001!

I now have RPG character profiles on the Characters page. I finally uploaded the Tamora Pierce maps. I can't find one of Emelan, if you can email me. The RPG has been updated with new forums, plot ideas, timeline ideas, and a new member. Thanks Elena! If we get enough members the RP will be able to open in February. I've added my own opinions and witty little comments underneath the Tamora Pierce books. The reviews were really just summaries, so now you have my actual review.

Tuesday, December 11th, 2001

The Tamora Pierce section has been completely revamped. New covers gallery, debates about the characters, fan fiction guide, RPG links, new colours and navigation, maps of Tortall and Emelan and new META Tags. We're submitted to Google now (seperate from the main Geocameron listing). Hopefully it will increase the traffic to Books. I put up a link to the Tamora Pierce section on the main page and joined us to two webrings. I'd really appreciate it if you guys would participate in the debates, join the RPG and sign the guestbook. It's gonna take you and me to make this page great!

Monday December 10th, 2001

I've just added a new section called QuickPicks. It details all sorts of things I like and lists of great books and computer games. I've gone on an updating spree lately doing tons of stuff on this website to try and make it great! One thing that bugs me though is the low number of visitors. Have any of you actually READ my book reviews? I'm going to stop updating those sections if nobody goes to them. The counter can lie, most of the visitors are here for the Neopets cheats.

Friday December 7th, 2001

Sabriel and Tolkien Book Reviews have been revamped. My Tamora Pierce Fanfic Betrayal was added to the page. It is currently 7 chapters long but it will probably end up being around 20 when I'm done. It finally has punctuation. The Harry Potter page has been revamped with an updated News page, new links and a brand new look. Redwall also has a new look. It also has some cool Redwall links. If you have any suggestions for what I should put on my site please email me and ask. The Mists of Emelan RPG is officially underway. Check out the messageboards here!

Thursday December 6th, 2001

I revamped the navigation of the site adding new images. The Writing Page is now up, it only contains my two fanfics so far, but pretty soon I'll add essays and informative presentations as well. The Tamora Pierce page got a new look today. Since she's my favourite author she gets something a little special. There's much more to come, I'm thinking about a possible RPG idea here. Soon all the books will have their own pages with the NEW Cam's Connection look.
