The Serious Mistakes of Darwin

The 19th century could be called the golden age of ground-breaking naturalistic and atheistic-materialistic thought systems. The main stars: Darwin, Marx and Engels, Freud, and Nietzsche. Their ideas created the bases for 20th century revolutions of evolutionism, Communism, the sexual revolution and nationalistic politics of might (e.g. Nazism), respectively. Today, these still continue to affect our modern cultural institutions.

Our focus here, however, is Darwinian evolution. His central thesis was published in 1859, in his book: The Origin of Species, and later modified and expanded in the Descent of Man, published in 1871.

The core of his ideas states that gradual changes leading to the emergence of new species take place over extended periods of time through the random forces of nature based on natural selection. What he termed; "descent with modifications."

There are many problems inherent in his conclusion as it pertains to the formation of new species. It defies common sense, proven science and the principles in nature.

What are Some of His Mistakes?
1) Most prominent is that (after all his efforts) he did not recognize the true God of Creation, creation principles and the masterful “creative process” which embodies values, purpose and direction. These reflect the Creator’s direct and indirect character and form.

2) He had a preconceived motive to refute the “static creation” theory of Genesis by traditional Christianity. This states that beings are the sacred creations of an almighty God, and are fixed in their state. His focus was to overturn this theory at all cost.

3) He concluded that man and all things are arbitrary evolved individual entities instead of “paired creations” specially purposed for fulfilling love, life and lineage: the purpose of creation.

Darwin’s mistakes are many, they run very deep and are most pervasive. They have helped to create fertile soil and breeding grounds for hardcore evolutionism, atheistic materialism (e.g. communism), relentless secularism in our present-day educational systems, strong influence on some religious perspectives, and much of the general anti-God thoughts on life.

4) Darwin was unable to discern the value of the unchanging internal and external qualities in all species. Example, those qualities (identity maintaining characteristics) which make each being and thing unique throughout life, as an individual, and as a species. He mistakenly (or deliberately) focused on the changeable, transient and adaptable traits, making these the essence of his theory.

5) He mistakenly treated “natural selection” in its various forms (e.g. sexual selection) as god-like. To him, it shaped, manipulated and constructed all of life realities. He said “...Natural selection works solely by and for the good of each being… (and) tends to move toward perfection.” (Origin of Species)

In so doing, Darwin became blind to the ordained inherent purpose, direction and cause of each and all entities. He was also misguided in not being able to grasp the ubiquitous “Principle of Creation” by which man and all things create (Creativity is the ability of God's objects -creatures to fashion the constructs of heart and mind into objective reality. Each living entity has the ability to create "second-selves").

It is through this very Principle (Principle of Creation) that God Himself created us as humans, His sons and daughters. (Gen.1:27; Ps.8:3-5; Jn.1:14; Zech.12:1).

6) His cherished idea of “survival of the fittest,” lauded by many sympathizers (e.g., the social Darwinist, Herbert Spencer), is not a constant in nature or in human society. Certainly, no one thought that young David was "fitter" than Goliath, or that the weakling fawn hidden in the under-bush would survive the hungry lions’ kill of the fittest of the male bucks.

If examined carefully, the way of nature defies many of the cherished ideas of Darwin. He himself became confused, feeling disgust, that “a wise God would even make parasites.”

Purposeful Design or Chance Evolution?

Parts 1 - 7 (combined)

The debate of evolution versus creation wages on. At the heart of this historical clash of theories, or, as some may have it; “viewpoints,” is the question of the origin of man and all things. Is man from God - the absolute being of perfection, purpose and personality, or from mere chance and chaos? To further complicate the matter (in America) there is the issue of the “separation of Church and state.” This divisive issue lends a heavy hand against the position of creationists whose God-laden arguments, however sophisticated and convincing, are suspect to having ulterior motives for invading the sacred arena of public education controlled by government and secular thought systems. Nevertheless, the question of origin remains.

Scientific methodology rooted in accurate interpretations of its results is able to help us understand our physical origin, but it is unable to tackle the deeper ontological questions of life. Here, the end of science is the beginning of philosophical and theological investigation.

From the standpoint of Darwin; “natural selection” can be regarded as “god-like.” It guides, shapes, sculps and moulds all things in an ever ascending order, finally settling at the apex of its evolutionary wonder; “man.” Why is it god-like? Because it appears to possess subjective powers (forces), and teleological qualities which render all things to a particular end. Not only that, but “natural selection” presumably brings about a resultant food-chain (where every being must consume certain types of energy-forms—nourishment, sustenance, to maintain its individual existence and that of its species), establishes paired sexuality and determines a life span for man and all things; to mention a few universal qualities. Darwin himself, said: “Natural selection works solely by and for the good of each being… (and) tends to move toward perfection.” (Origin of Species, 1859).

Although evolutionists belong to a wide range of positions, such as: atheistic, agnostic and theistic, it is commonly agreed amongst them that “natural selection,” not genetics or other, is the major sculpting force acting over millions and millions of years to effect gradual changes that result in the formation of new species. This so-called process Darwin named "descent with modifications".

Fundamentalist Creationism, on the other hand, posits a view of a miraculous God “speaking” everything into existence, instantaneously. And, within six literal days of 24 hours, He created man and all things, and rested on the seventh day. For some, six days represent six thousand years, for others, mostly traditionalists, they signify six epochs in accordance with the geological calculations of modern science. The unifying link within the creationists' view is the acceptance of God as the absolute Creator.

Can there be a true scientific and theological/philosophical reconciliation, based on the evidences, that gives an objective logical affirmation to man’s origin and purpose of existence? This is the question.

The Unification perspective revisits the “cause and effect” principle respected by thinkers of both the scientific and theological camps.

To reconcile evolutionism and creationism is a mountainous challenge. Both sides are hampered by strong prejudices, major constraints, resentment toward the other, and fear. Evolutionists feel an innate claim to the naturalistic dimension of life and are strongly in rebuttal to any influence of biblical literalism on its views. Creationists, on the other hand, feel that God’s creative acts have been hijacked by a false view of life via deceptive maneuverings by atheists. Both sides are unwilling to give.

Is there a third position which is able to bridge this great divide? Unification Principle offers hope.

Beginning in 1972, Rev. Moon founded the International Conference on the Unity of the Sciences (ICUS), an interdisciplinary body attracting eminent scientists, Nobel laureates and scholars throughout the world. The overall purpose of ICUS was to launch the quest for absolute values as it pertains to the peace and happiness of humankind. He acknowledged the great divide existing between science and religion, and offered a novel approach for reconciliation and unification.

He explained that, “A new thought must appear to unify past philosophies and religions (and religion and science). This must appear” he said, “from a unified thought system with its goal being the establishment of a unified world.”

Why a unified approach? “Because,” he continued, “the ultimate cause of our universe must be an absolute being with two natures which can create the attributes of mind and matter, respectively. Only from a unified monistic cause can a unified world of effect be brought about.”

(Mind) Original Cause (body)

/ \
Internal Aspect---External Aspect

(Mind)--------------(Body)
(Mind-like)-------(Material)

This perspective of Rev. Moon appears to inject new thinking on the examination and analysis of our existence. An objective observation of our universe and all its living forms shows an unchanging consistency of dual characteristics as its fundamental constituents. All things are originating from an original point then developing into more complex and higher beings, culminating in man.

Evolution, which adopts a purely naturalistic (materialistic) orientation of our world, and creationism which reverts to unilateral spiritualism of instantaneous, miraculous actualization, need to be re-examined.

A New Paradigm
The establishment of an original unified monistic cause is well grounded when we conclude, from the obvious, that all reality (living and non-living) possess an internal (mind or directive) nature and an external (material/energy) form. The internal nature generates the purpose and direction of the entity, and the external form; mass and motion. The existence of any entity depends on the reciprocal give and take between its internal (mind-subject) nature and external (body-object) form.

Further to the above qualities, we see a universally paired male and female or positive/negative characteristics. The give and take between reciprocal partners, in each pair system, helps to maintain species continuity (progeny), propagation, and diversity within each species. Centering on the purpose and direction of mind (or mind-like quality), the male and female types (or positive and negative) enter sexual or asexual union (bonding between elements, pollination in plants, mating in animals, sex in humans) to bring forth new offspring (or union) within the same species. This is called, in Unification Thought, the establishment of a Four Position Foundation (purpose, male-female, offspring), essential to: existence, multiplication and the conduct of vital activities.

In addition to the essential characteristics of each paired entity, we have scientifically, and by common knowledge, discovered three basic stages of growth and development (formation, growth and completion) governing all things in existence. The combination of spatial and temporal (space-time) realities, emerging from the same original unified cause, produces the environment for growth and development of all living things.

This new view of Creationism posited by the Unification Thought is therefore anchored in four core principles:
1) Original Cause of mind and matter.
2) Male/female, positive/negative pair system.
3) Reciprocal give and take action.
4) Principle of three growth stages.

The chance-chaos theory of Darwinian evolutionism and many of the ideas of instantaneous, miraculous creationism cannot guide the way of modern science and culture which seek a unified world and lasting peace.

Discovering the true universal principles at the heart of the mystery of our wondrous world offers new hope to humankind.

Solving the Mystery of Creation
The universe is indeed a magnificient reality. We make this value assessment through our five physical senses in harmony with our internal sensibility (spiritual senses) which judges truth, beauty and goodness. This appreciation of the universe is esteemed by scientists and religionists alike. The former focus on the tangible reality, and the latter; the intangible reality.

(Spiritual Reality)
/
Religion

--------

Science
/
(Physical Reality)

It is therefore reasonable to say that, to resolve the mystery of our ontology, we must apply a unified methodology which respects the universal laws and principles (spiritual and physical) governing our world. On this foundation, the integrity of scientists and religionists helps to assure unbiased conclusions.

The creation process takes place through the subject-object partners (male/female; + -) principle directed by purpose (love). This “Principle of Creation” is ubiquitous throughout the universe and is actively involved from the microcosmic to the macrocosmic levels. Thus, the entire universe exists as a unified body of multitudinous paired entities, “each to its own kind,” replicating its own kind, while inter-relating with all others.

The mystery of creation is solved when scientists come to understand that the structural DNA (and related biological parts) of differing living beings, including man, is only an aspect of external nature.

It is purposed by the Original Cause to be a “receiver of life (consciousness)” and is not life itself.

There are two basic types of the creation process: sexual (male+female=offspring) and inventive (creator+materials=works). In both cases, the internal spiritual and external physical realities become unified through reciprocal relationship centering on purpose (love) creating a resultant being which reflects the nature of the parent being (principle of resemblance).

Scientists, focusing only on the externals of life while ignoring the principles and values of religion become seriously handicapped in their efforts to understand and replicate the true reality.

The power of life is embodied in and generated by the Original Cause (God)-Gen.2:7. For man to obtain the power to create (sexual and inventive) true life, he must be absolutely united with the Original Cause (God) in heart, having fulfilled His original purpose (1:28).

Although science in its present form does not deal with God as the Original Cause of our universe, nonetheless, in due course, it must confront and make sense of an Original Cause to its cosmogony.

Original Cause
Intellect
Emotion <=(
Will
Laws
)=>Principles
Pre-matter

The Big Bang, Steady State and other theories of cosmology are primarily those examining the universe as an “effect”. An inevitable consideration is that of a pre-material causality which embodies the fundamental forces, laws, principles (mathematical, spiritual, physical, etc.), and energy, which undergird the existence, function and purpose of all reality.

To further increase our understanding of the mystery of creation of how man emerged from God—the Original Cause, we must closely examine the universal creative principle. This we previously termed the “Principle of Creation”. A quintessential statement of the Bible regarding this topic, is that; “God created man in His image, male and female He created them.” (Gen.1:27). There is also the proclamation of God creating all things: the invisible substantial and the visible substantial realities (1:1-25).

From our understanding of the creative process (described previously), we are able to conclude that God created man based on His ideal: Logos—the Image of His nature (Gen.1:27; Jn.1:1; Col.1:15; Heb.1:3).

The scientific anatomical model of healthy man (male/female), for example, becomes the standard of reference for evaluating everyone’s physical state. The internal aspect of man (male/female) likewise, is directly designed to resemble God’s masculine and feminine characteristics. God effected this design process through the avenue of the Principle of Creation, wherein He activated His parental nature to give birth to His children: Adam and Eve (the first human ancestors). As God’s children, they possessed the true seed of life, love and lineage {not yet at the Completion stage of growth (as adults), but at the Formation stage (newborn infants)}.

Through God’s inventive creative acts, He formed each species, from the lowest to the highest, as a substantial paired entity based on the logos of man, in a *Stepped Order (*more details to come). Because all beings are fashioned by the same Creator, they all bear certain universal attributes, but each individual entity is unique in itself.

The Unification Principle helps us to understand the "Stepped Order" process of creation. This is the ascending order of species creation, from Protozoa to man.

As we have stated before, all things were fashioned based on the logos of man (male and female).

The blueprint of man existed first because man was purposed to be the apogee of the fullness of the image of God, the Original Cause. In descending order, the blueprint of each entity (male/female) is established, by subtracting certain qualities (internal and external) from the previous higher being. That is, from the more complex to the less complex. For example, God subtracted the essential human characteristic (spirit and human form) from the human blueprint and added certain qualities in order to design the blueprint for the creation of a male and female ape.

In the actual creation process of existing beings, God then started from the simple (e.g., single cell organism) to the most complex (man), in an ascending stepped order.

Although this particular perspective has never been understood before, we are able to appreciate its wisdom based on the mode of the Principle of Creation which is inherent in us.

Stepped Order Creation
----------------------------- Man - Spirit/Human Form
---------------- Animal -Sense, Instinct/Organ, Nerve
-------- Plant -Function, Life/Cell, Tissue
Mineral -Physico-chemical Characteristics/Atomic, ...............Molecular Structure

For example, to make the space shuttle(a complex human creation of our time), our creative minds follow a princpled path: drawing an overall blueprint, designing each component part, then tackling the actual creation of the simple, next, moving to the more complex parts. In the final analysis, all are assembled together to specification, to fit and follow the overall blueprint. After, the finished product is tested for proof of performance – the fulfillment of the original intended purpose.

All beings in nature are endowed with the power of creativity for their particular level, and all function through the Principle of Creation. The entire universe of worlds within worlds, from the atomic to the massive galactic systems; all exhibit inherent directive forces of attraction and repulsion, and; in living beings: creativity and inter-relativity. One of the major questions that confronts science and the human mind, at large, is: “What is the purpose of this vast reality?

The Purpose of Creation
The Purpose of Creation gives meaning to the vast reality of man and all things, and addresses both the internal and external dimensions of life. The question of the “Why” of existence cannot be wholesomely answered by science since it is limited only to the corporeal reality. The Unification Principle sees a teleological end to each individual entity and to the cosmos as a whole. It identifies two basic purposes: 1) a purpose of the individual; and 2), a purpose of the whole.

The purpose of the individual is realized through its many activities for the sake of its own preservation and procreation. Concurrently, the purpose of the whole is fulfilled through the contribution of the individual to the existence, well-being and expansion of the whole. For example, each of the following entities has self-preservation while existing for the sake of higher beings. Atoms exist for forming molecules, molecules for minerals (and cells), minerals for plants, plants for animals, animals for man, and man for God. God (the Original Cause) exists for each individual entity. Every existing being (living or non-living) is sustained by the Universal Prime Force (UPF) of the Original Being—God. And, in this grand scale, each entity exists for the sake of all the others.

The Purpose of Creation

Joy -------God ---Happiness
----- Man -(attends God)
---Animal - (exists for joy of man)
-- Plant -(for animals)
Mineral - (for plants)

It is also important to note that, the purpose of the whole in not antagonistic to the purpose of the individual, but sustains and protects it. The intricate interweaving of all beings creates an interdependency among them as in a well balanced ecosystem. Overall, all things exist for the sake of man, to bring joy to him who is at the apex of creation. However, man is in a “subject position” to have loving dominion over all things (in an object position) (Gen.1:28). Man, in turn, exists to give joy to God. The Purpose of Creation, in conclusion, is to realize joy and happiness for God and humankind. This is not a conclusion that science as a discipline, in its present state (of limited definition), is able to appreciate. However, the external analyses and discoveries of the interconnectedness of ecosystems, and the micro and macrocosmic interrelatedness of all things, point to a unified and harmonized organic, yet still mysterious universe.
