GIS Development

General GIS software such as ArcView, MapInfo and GeoMedia are designed with a generic interface that suits knowledgeable GIS users needs. The use of such software normally requires many hours of training. In many cases development of GIS customized interfaces are not necessary.

When do you need GIS development?

  1. some of the GIS functions needed for the use of the user are not present in the interface and could be only done by a series or complex composite of GIS commands in the software
  2. intended users are not GIS-trained personnel and are using its power without need to know more about the details of how it's done
  3. some procedures are taking up some specific shape and could be scripted to speed up their process

While the #3 doesn't need much preparations (scripting could start right away) #1 and #2 normally needs lots of preparations in the form of Requirements Assessment and other Analysis and Design offered from GS in the Consulting section here.
