Rivals

Why do we have to be rivals? Nick wondered, as he saw Justin on the other side of the room, smiling and laughing at a joke Chris had just told him. His eyes glinted in the dim orange light, as he noticed Nick looking at him, and flashed him a grin. Nick felt his knees get weak and limp, and he grabbed onto Brian to keep from stumbling.

"Nick, you okay?" Brian shot him a concerned, worried look.

Nick nodded and noticed his hand on Brian's shoulder, and quickly removed it. Then he looked back at Justin, who was laughing at another one of Chris' jokes with that beautiful smile of his. Brian followed Nick's eyes, and patted him on the back. "Nick, forget about him."

"What?" Nick pulled his eyes off of Justin and looked into Brian's knowing eyes.

"Forget about Justin, I said. He's in 'NSync." Brian smirked.

"What do you mean, forget about him?" Nick was shocked that Brian could even guess what Nick was thinking about Justin.

"I mean, you can't have him. So forget about him."

"What makes you think that I want him?" Nick snapped back, glaring at Brian.

"Just by the way you're looking at him."

"I don't want him." Nick lied, jerking his head away to look back at Justin.

"Uh huh." Brian mumbled.

Nick sighed as he saw Justin stand up and talk to Lance, his hand resting on Lance's shoulder. I wish I was Lance, Nick thought, not taking his eyes off of Justin. Justin's hair looked so soft. Nick wanted to run his hand over Justin's hair, feeling the curls beneath his fingers. And Justin's lips looked so luscious. Nick wanted to place his lips on Justin's, and just feel them on his lips.

"Brian, I'm...." Nick snapped his head back to look where Brian was standing, but Brian wasn't there. He was now beside AJ, both leaning back against the wall, talking about something.

"Hey." Nick closed his eyes faintly as he heard the voice behind him. Jumped slightly when the hand reached over and touched him lightly on his shoulder. Nick blinked his eyes open and spun around, coming face to face with none other than Justin Timberlake.

"Hey." Nick replied quietly. Why is Justin so intimidating? Nick thought, smiling weakly at the boy before him.

Justin grinned back, stepping forward, closer to Nick. "Man, this place is stuffed. Wanna go outside?"

Nick nodded as Justin grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the door. He shoved Nick against the wall as they got outside, and pushed his lips against Nick's. Nick, surprised, felt his whole body tensing up before he kissed back, feeling Justin's lips on his.

Justin's lips felt exactly like Nick knew they would. They were softer than any lips he's ever kissed before. More luscious. More comforting. More delicious than any other lips.

When Justin came up for air, he was breathing heavily against Nick's face. Nick felt Justin's hand back on his, and he lead him to the bench. Nick sat down beside Justin and stared at the grass underneath his shoes.

They sat there for minutes, looking around and sneaking glances at each other, then turning away when the other one saw the other's eyes on him.

"I'd better go back inside and make sure Joey ain't getting drunk." Justin muttered, pushing himself off of the bench, but was stopped by Nick's hand, which grabbed his.

"Wait." Nick bit his lip, and stared back at the ground, thinking of something, anything, to say. "That's it?"

Justin smiled at him and dropped back down on the bench, placing his hand over Nick's thigh. "That's it, Nick. I'm sorry. We're rivals."

"No one has to know."

"Someone will find out. I mean, JC and Lance went out for a month until Chris walked in on them....and yeah." Justin shrugged, sighing as he looked into Nick's hurt eyes.

"How can Chris find out about us? How can anyone? We're in different boybands, Justin." Nick protested.

"Exactly, Nick. If anyone ever found out, both our careers would be completely over with. I've always wanted you. But I just can't."

"Give it a chance." Nick pleaded, grasping Justin's hand that was on his thigh.

"I can't..." Justin leaned forward, kissing Nick again. This time his tongue slipped inbetween Nick's parted lips and their tongues danced in their mouths for minutes, until Justin pulled back again.

"I'm sorry, Nick. We're rivals." Justin gave him one last peck on the cheek, and walked back into the dance club, leaving Nick sitting alone on the bench.

Nick closed his eyes, and thought. Why the fuck can't we be in the same boyband? Why do we have to be rivals?
