Chapter 4

Britney's POV

******

"Brit!" Lance came rushing into the room, and me stood in front of me just as I was about to sit down on the couch, and bit his lip. "I need to talk to you. It's about... Jorge."

I studied Lance. He seemed worried. "What I tell you can't tell anyone... promise?"

Now worried about what it was, I nodded. "I promise."

Lance sat down on the couch and I sat down beside him and looked at him. "Um... I saw something I shouldn't of had. Jorge doesn't know. Christina doesn't know. No one knows. You're the first person I'm going to tell and you just can't -- you CAN'T tell anyone." Emphasizing the word can't, Lance stared at me.

"Okay... I won't! What's wrong?"

"I'm telling you this because you're one of Chrissy's best friends... and you won't tell anyone," Lance paused, and closed his eyes before continuing. "I saw Jorge cheat on her. I saw him kiss another girl."

My jaw dropped and I stared at Lance before replying. "Why can't I tell anyone?! I don't want Chrissy to marry someone like that!"

"You promised you wouldn't tell, Brit! And you always keep your promises, that's why I told you." Lance reminded me.

I sighed. "What exactly did you see? What happened?"

"I was at the party. Christina was talking to JC, coaxing his car keys away because he was drunk. And Jorge went somewhere... so a minute later, I went in because I was looking for Justin, and I came in and he was kissing this girl named Kim. I don't know who she is exactly, Joey introduced me to her later... but I don't know. Probably one of Joey's girlfriends." Lance explained.

"Kim? That was Justin's date!"

Lance's mouth gaped open and he stared at me for a second, until coming back into consciousness and gulping. "You can't tell Christina. It will break her heart."

I groaned, remembering that I promised Lance I wouldn't tell her. "Please. I have to tell her. I can't do that to her."

Lance glared at me. "You promised you wouldn't."

"Lance, ugh... I love her."

"I do too... I'm sorry he did that to her."

"No... I mean, I'm in love with her." I diverted my eyes away from his and stared at the floor, in the corner of my eye seeing his face mask a surprised expression, as his jaw dropped even lower that it was before.

"Brit, you..." Lance paused, not knowing what to say. He sighed deeply as I brought my eyes back up and looked at him. "I'm sorry that it's like that."

"Like what?"

"That she's engaged to that asshole. Jorge doesn't deserve her. You do."

I smiled. "Really?"

Lance nodded and I leaned forward and hugged him tightly. "Does she know you love her, Brit?" He whispered quietly in my ear.

"She doesn't know. Justin does."

"So only me and Justin know... can I ask Christina if she loves you?"

I pulled back away from him and glared. "No. She'll suspect something."

"What if she loves you back though? Then it won't hurt her as much if we tell her what Jorge did, because she'll have you. You'll be there, right?"

"Whatever, Lance..." I shrugged. "You can't tell her."

"Fine. It's your loss."

The door turned and Jorge and Christina stepped in, their hands linked tightly. I felt bad watching her with Jorge, because I knew what he was doing and she didn't. And I don't know if she was happy with him or not right now, I mean, she did accept his proposal, but she always looked like she felt unbelonging near him. But then of course, she did with everyone. Except for me.
