There was an
increase in the swelling over night but they were able to get it
under control by increasing her medications.
October

Lisa's brain continues to swell despite
all the medications so the Dr. took her back to surgery to
remove part of her skull. They came out of surgery around
3:30pm and the Dr. was not optimistic with what he saw. In
recovery, they had trouble stabilizing Lisa. Around 6pm they
called her immediate family in to be with Lisa because they
did not think she was going to make it. A little after 8pm,
Lisa's dad and Dr. came out to inform her family and friends
that Lisa had put up a good fight but that her brain was dead.
Lisa is kept on life support so she can donate her organs
to those who need them.
October

Lisa's oxygen in her
brain has risen so the organ donation has to be put off. The Dr. said it
is temporary and was a result of the surgery. By the evening, Lisa's
condition has continued to improve which amazed the Dr. The Dr. is
calling it "Divne intervention" and he has only seen this
happen once many, many years ago.

Lisa continues to
improve. Her family held a meeting for a few family and friends to
spread the word that a miracle has happened. Lisa is ALIVE!!!
October
07, 2002
Lisa's cat scan shows
improvement and the pressure in her head is getting closer to the normal
range. They had to do a tracheotomy on her today so her breathing
machine enters through her throat instead of her mouth to prevent
further complications.
October

Lisa continues to
improve. She has developed pneumonia which is common for coma patients
but if she can beat death she can beat this.
October
09, 2002
Lisa's pneumonia has
progressed. They are having to treat it pretty aggressively so they are
having to move her as much as possible. This is causing the pressure in
her head to rise. She needs a lot of prayer.
October
13, 2002
Lisa continues to
improve. Her lungs are clearing and the pressure in her head is
nearing normal. If all continues to go well then they may start to
wake her up soon. Yeah!!
October
15, 2002
They took the
monitors out of Lisa's brain today because the pressure in her head
has stabilized. She continues to battle the ARDS but it looks much
better. She's off many of the medications now but she is still on the
respirator because of the ARDS.
October
17, 2002
Lisa’s condition has moved from critical to
stable. Her lungs did not show any improvement this morning so they
praying for her lungs to clear so she can be taken off the respirator
and we can begin to wake her up.
October
20, 2002
Lisa's lungs showed a
small improvement. They have taken her off the paralysis medications and
she is showing some signs of waking up like head turning and rapid eye
movement. They would like to see brisker pupil reactions to light. They
are slowly weaning her off the respirator.

Lisa had a good day. She had a cat scan and
her Dr. is happy with what he sees, he did some neurological tests and
Lisa responded well, Plus she started physical therapy today. The
physical therapist said Lisa was feisty and resisting her. That sounds
like Lisa. She still has extra fluid throughout her body that we pray
goes down. She is receiving excellent care from her doctors and nurses.
Thanks guys!

Lisa's pupils are not reacting. The
doctors are a little confused by this. Her swelling has gone down some.
She is allergic to one of her medications and has broken out in a rash.
They have started her methadone treatment to wean her off all her pain
medications. This process will take a week.
October
25, 2002
Good job on the praying everyone! Lisa's pupils
are reacting again! Yeah! She is also showing signs of waking up. She
is moving to stimulus. Dr. Gross, her neurologist, gave her the thumbs
up and we all hope she opens her eyes soon.
October
27, 2002
Lisa's swelling has gone down a lot. Physical
therapy and her family's massages seems to be working. She continues
to become more aroused and we are hopeful she should be awake by the
end of the week. Her pupils are working but they still need more
prayer. Keep up the good work!
October
28, 2002
Lisa is starting to open her eyes when asked
to. She doesn't focus on things yet but that is expected. They are
still weaning her off her medications and Lisa is going through
withdrawals. They would like to see some purposeful movement (i.e..
squeeze my hand) and they would like to try to wean her off the
ventilator. Her swelling has gone down but still has a ways to go. Her
eyes are reacting but they are still are slow. Thank you for all the
prayers. It's working!
October
30, 2002
Lisa's swelling continues to go down. She is
breathing on her own but the respirator is still in place just in case
she forgets to breathe. She was able to squeeze her mom's hand when
she was asked to which is great! She is moving around a bit more and
even responds to people talking to her. She isn't keeping her eyes
open yet but she opens them from time to time.
