October photos cont. HOME BACK
Todays walk (27/10/01) started in Buttermere at the National Trust car park near Long How. From here we headed off along the road toward Hause Point before veering off to follow the footpath that would lead us up onto Rannerdale Knotts our first target for the day. From the summit we headed for Whiteless Pike and then on to Wandope and Crag Hill, leaving Crag Hill we dropped down toward Sail and then Sail Pass. Our original plan was to turn sharp right here and drop down into the valley and then straight up again to Ard Crags, however Shaun had another gameplan and we set off for Outerside and then on to Barrow for lunch. We had just finished lunch when we got caught in a sudden downpour, luckily we had seen it coming over and had got our gear on ready. From Barrow we dropped down into the valley and headed back up to the pass and like the gentlemen we are we recovered an orange for a weary walker who had dropped it when he sat down for lunch at the head of the track, and down it rolled !!!. Once back at the pass we immediately dropped straight down into the valley and followed our original plan up to Ard crags ( what a haul ! ) at the top we struck out for Knott Rigg our final top for the day, or was it ? as we were dropping down toward the road at Newlands Hause, Shaun, ever the taskmaster suggested going back up again onto High Snockrigg. Karl, fortunately, had to be home early and wanted to set off for home no later than 3:30 as it was his mums birthday and was going out for a meal. All in all another excellent day out on the fells.

Happy Birthday to Karls Mum.
