Belgium

After a nice week in France, I decided to go to Belgium. I'd been interested in the place from the first time I read about it in french class. I took the Thalys train from Paris-Brussels, since the company offered a 50% discount for people between the ages of 12 and 25. Thus, my ticket was ridiculously cheap.

I must admit that when I first got there, things went awry. I had trouble finding a hostel and had to go through the tourism office. I couldn't find that office to save my life, and every person gave me a different direction to get to the same place; however, someone rescued me again in an almost identical situation to Paris. Anyway, the tourism office was really helpful, and I was in heaven a few moments later. :)

I stayed at the Brueghel hostel which has a great location near the central station and Grand Place. Belgium was good for me...I met some great people, it wasn't too cold, it was a beautiful country with many varieties of beer, and I actually got to see some sun again. I explored every corner of Brussels and then went to the quiet town of Brughes. I also visited Tervuren. For more tourism information, please look at City net's Belgium page. Here are some pics. I did not take all of the pics while in Brussels. Some were taken my pal Muambi. I'd like to thank him for his excellent photography. :)

This is the Manneken Pis---the pride and joy of all people in Brussels. Here a boy is performing the obvious bodily function. It's a small statue, only 30 cm tall (11.81 inches) and is usually naked. Since I was there on independence day, he was clothed. It was sculpted in 1619, but the statue has been stolen and replaced many times.
