Carnival '97 in Miami
On October 12th of last year, thousands of Caribbean people descended on Miami to attend the annual West Indian Carnival Parade. Even though many West Indians live abroad, they have brought carnival to their new locations. This demonstrates how dear they hold Carnival to their hearts and shows the significance of the festival as a part of their culture. Caribbean Carnivals take place in the United States, Canada, and in the United Kingdom.
This year was different in that there was one Carnival instead of two (about time). Thus, all of us came together in unity, since we share a common history and culture. We all waved the flags of our countries in the air representing our homelands. In addition, we enjoyed meeting people from our isles. I'm telling you, I was stopped by so many Dominicans; it was great!!!!
I took the following pictures on that day. Well, I tried to take pictures at least. It was difficult to get clear shots, since there were so many people, and I was busy jumpin' up. Anyway, this is just to give you an idea of the fun we had in Miami. Enjoy!
