For all my geography buffs out there (hint: INR majors at FIU), the next three pics are for you. One thing that one notices while going from north to south and vice versa in this region is the variations in the land. The Sahel is in a transition zone between the desert and tropical biomes. Thus, at times, it seems as if one is in a desert. Other times, it looks like one is near a forest with sources of water.
One thing I noticed was the presence of sand almost everywhere. This is because the Sahara is advancing every year. The desertification cycle doesn't help things either: deforestation--->soil erosion--->desertification
