| Aboriginal People - Approximately 35% of eligible First Nations men enlisted, a percentage equal to or higher than enlistment rates among other sectors of Canada. This number is especially impressive considering that their service in World War I was completely voluntary: treaty agreements exempted First Nations people from military service. |
| Women - At home, the shortage of male workers left an unprecedented number of women to enter the workforce in non-traditional jobs. Between 20,000 and 30,000 worked in munitions factories and on aircraft and lifeboat assembly lines. Countless women volunteered for the Red Cross. |
