About Me

Five years ago, just before I got married, my best friend Kim came down for a visit. I worked at a fabric store around the corner from my apartment, and the ladies there had been jabbing at me because I did not know how to sew. Kim decided to teach me. We were going to make a dress. That dress was lopsided, ugly, and made me look pregnant. I was hooked.

I started making curtains - big squares with hems. I made pillows. Finally, I made clothes (and they came out okay!). But clothes were no fun, so I made dolls. Just regular, boring dolls. Don't get me wrong, they were cute, but boring. I started to try to make costumes of the cartoon characters I saw on TV. Then I started to make dolls of those same characters. Now that is what I make almost exclusively - dolls and costumes.

Besides sewing, I also love computers, and spend a lot of my free time absorbed in learning new things about them. HTML is my current topic of choice, and, as any self-respecting webmonkey would do, I have chosen to make all my webpages in nothing more than notepad. I am a firm believer in learning the language before cheating by using a WYSIWYG editor. This is the third time I have redone my webpage.

On Wednesdays, I become a scout leader at a program called Caravans. Caravans is sponsored by The First Church of the Nazarene. The program is a little like scouting everywhere (boy scouts, girl scouts, etc.) except that it is co-ed, and a little more lax at our church. We have badges like cooking and sewing and fire safety. Since it is church- related, we also have bible reading and memorization badges, etc.

I have taken up Korean Karate, also. The art is called Kang Duk Won and my husband has been taking it for a couple of years. I decided I needed to do something besides sit on my rear sewing and doing the computer thing. I think that to be a well rounded individual, you need physical, mental, spiritual and creative things to do. As of today, August 12, I am a yellow belt (2nd rung). I hope to become a black belt in a couple of years. So many people take up martial arts and then just stop going.

I currently work for the county, in the assessor's office, in the title transfer department. It is dull, but low stress. I used to work at Midas. Many of you might have complaints against Midas, but I am not going to say anything bad about them because they hired me when no one else would give me a chance. I was glad to leave, though. A position as bookkeeper there is very demanding and stressful.

If you made it this far, well, you must have been really bored ;-)
