Then there was the problem of where to find a pattern. I already had several doll patterns and decided to modify Simplicity pattern #7142, which I had gotten years ago. (Back when I was poor!) The pattern did not have ears - well it had bunny ears, but I figured that wasn't any good. By the way, Usagi means bunny or rabbit in Japanese... maybe it was fitting. Another modification I made was the hands. I sewed fingers and a thumb in there, but you really can't see them on this doll. The hands are covered with the gloves. I didn't make any other outfits for this one.
The third modification I made was the knee and elbow joints. I wanted Sailor Moon to be posable - sort of, after all she was just cloth. To achive this, I stuffed the arms and legs up to the joint, then sewed across. I then stuffed the arms and legs the rest of the way. Here's a picture:
As you can see, she is very flexible. Now I had to dress her. Well, I had to make my own pattern. You just can't find a pattern for a sailor scout uniform for a 30" doll. Go figure. Her boots are felt, and her costume is just a cotton fabric. Her gloves have felt trim on them, the same kind that her boots are made of. After she was dressed, she needed hair. So, I bought a skein of yellow yarn from Wal-Mart (I spend too much time there) and sewed each little hair by hand! I do this while I watch TV, so it wasn't a tedious as you might think. Here are some more views of doll.
That's about it!
