Hello!

My name is Colby and I would like to welcome you to my personal web page and first project for my Web Site Creation class! I am going to present some information about myself here.

Education

I graduated from Elk Grove High School in 1990. At that time, I already had a full-time job so I entered the work force and didn't give much thought to furthering my education. Now, 11 years later, I've made the decision to go back to school and I'm currently enrolled at MTI College of Business and Technology.

Background

I was born in Fremont, California. I have spent my life in various places all around the Sacramento Valley area. My personal intrests include several things. Back when I was still in high school, I got into computers. I owned a C64 and learned to program in Basic and even ran a BBS for some time. Ever since then, I have held a tremendous amount of interest in computers, everything from hardware to software.

My interests also include some wood working, like building shelves and cabinets around the house. I also enjoy gardening and now that spring is here, I have spent a good deal of time tending and planting. I also enjoy sports to some degree, primarily football as I am an avid Raiders fan, but I also like baseball.

My favorite pasttime is playing guitar. I enjoy listening to several types of music so I likewise enjoy learning to play different songs. I've been playing now for 11 years though it has always been more of a hobby than anything really serious.

Work

I spent the first several years in the work force in the typical dead end jobs of our society. Things like construction, fast food, and even as a Petroleum Dispersal Engineer. My latest positions have been in the computer industry though. I have done lots of test and repair work for HP, I've done lots of PC repair and trouble-shooting. I also worked into a management position where I ran an entire warehouse floor from the crew of 30+ employees to filling out all the month's end spreadsheets and inventory.

The last position that I held was working with excess/returned merchandise. I was in charge of the entire project, from purchasing the material, supervising a team of techs that tested and repaired our wares, posting the material on the Internet for sales, and even had to oversee all of the shipping/receiving. I was also responsible for all the transactions, and tracking all the transactions and merchandise, and also customer service.

I then moved on to help with designing and maintaining our websites and databases. I was also involved in a project to take all of our inventory databases and put them online for the various companies that we rented warehouse space to. So in my years with this particular company, I managed to cover a wide range of positions and learned a great deal of things. The biggest drawback of course, came when the company began to collapse and we were all laid off. For the first time I found myself in the job market with all kinds of skills, but with little to no formal documentation about my skills or training. It would seem that your personal word and a letter of recommendation will only get you so far.

Family

Well, I won't put much here. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we will celebrate 10 wonderful years together this year. What more needs to be said there? We have two beautiful and healthy children, a daughter and a son. They are both very bright kids with promising futures, or at least I like to think so.

My Pesent Goals

My main goal at the present time is to focus on school. I would like to get through this first year at MTI with good grades and then to get a good job working on the web. At that point I will likely continue on to the second year program at MTI to get an Associates Degree.

My Studies at MTI

My studies at MTI are primarily focused on Web Development. I am currently finishing up my business math and English classes. I already finished my Windows and College Preparation classes. My most recent classes include Web Site Creation and Word Processing Concepts. Right now, I am learning the basics for HTML (or re-learning as the case may be).

And here I shall demonstrate use of the remaining tags that I am required to use in this project.

Here

are

the

different

header
tags.

Here are the Bold and Italic tags.

And here are some examples of the Align attribute.

I could put text here.

Or maybe here.

Or even here.

Well, that about wraps this project up.
