“Angels … Devils … And The Fork In The Road”, the third release from Ghosts Of Pompeii, is both a celebration of joy and the anguish of despair. It is a stark contrast of emotions, from the comfort of a Mothers’ midnight lullaby, to the ‘lump in your throat’ terror of approaching footsteps in a darkened alleyway.
It is the Light. The Dark. Good and Evil.
It is Heaven and Hell, and this Waiting Room called “Life” where actions determine our ultimate destination.
As the title implies, this CD is a parable of conflict and choice, and the consequence we face when the Forces of Darkness sabotage our judgment.
Waiting in the balance - an eternity of peace or penance.
“The Underworld Overture” opens with an ominous orchestral fanfare, segueing into the wailing chorus of searing souls within the Inferno … one choice.
In direct contrast, children’s laughter and the stirring melody of “On The Wings Of An Angel Parts I & II”, presents us with an attractive alternative to eternal condemnation. The choice is clear.
This album is a collection of instrumental songs capturing moments of flowing beauty, entwined amidst chaotic passages that are just plain scary.
And then there are songs like ‘Turf War’ that just simply - rock.
Ghosts Of Pompeii has truly come of age on this CD, finding a voice unique to the prog/rock field, while maintaining the philosophy and integrity of those who have come before.
