Homicidal clowns, vanishing Indian tribes, interstellar communications, sci-fi terrors from the cathode-ray tube, a call to Heaven; is this the new fall schedule for the SCI-FI Channel?

No. But it may well be the perfect soundtrack for your dreams – or nightmares.

"A Voyage Beyond The Looking Glass" is the 5th instrumental CD from keyboardist Joseph Shingler and his project, Ghosts Of Pompeii.

Although the music is performed entirely on keyboards this CD matches the energy and decibel level of a four or five piece band.

With the exception of a few ambient orchestral tracks, "A Voyage Beyond The Looking Glass" has an aggressive prog-rock edge.

Titles such as "These Clowns Came To Kill", "All Hallows Evil", and "Carnivour" are high-energy arrangements for keyboards, guitar, bass and drums.

"The Battle Of Hastings Hollow" is a Celtic rock pairing of bagpipes and synthesizers. Imagine the soundtrack for "Braveheart" scored by ELP. "Midnight At The Necropolis" is an evil gothic sounding number propelled by the crunching King Crimsonish thunder-fuzz bass, with a percussive tribal conclusion.

"Whispers Of Autumn" is an atmospheric blend of smoky jazz and new age ambience driven by the haunting melody of a phantom sax.

The interplay between acoustic 12-string guitar and orchestra on the title track brings to mind the instrumental interludes of the classic Moody Blues albums.

"Spirits Of The Anasazi" is a mystical new age melody, evoking the ancient spirits of the vanishing Native American cave dwellers.

Peppered throughout are sonic seasonings that should appease the pallet of prog/rock fans whose taste in music includes Saga, Camel, Tangerine Dream, ELP, and Goblin.

The CD concludes with "We Are All Called Home", an ethereal hymn to release the soul for its' final journey.

A fitting finale to our own ultimate destination … A Voyage Beyond The Looking Glass.
