This blacksmith shop was built in
1997 in typical pre-1900 construction style. It is a working blacksmith shop but is also
maintained as a museum to memorialize, preserve, maintain and demonstrate the craft and art
of the blacksmith as a significant craftsman in the forging of the tools of civilization and
commerce of Gretna (and the nation).

|
Workshops are held to teach the art and craft of the blacksmith and to train
demonstrators.
| |

|
Demonstrations are conducted by blacksmiths to portray the blacksmith at work,
particularly for school children on field trips, but also for visitors or tourists.
| |
|
Weddings are conducted in the blacksmith
shop and reaffirmed over the anvil in
the tradition of Gretna's namesake, Gretna Green, Scotland. | |
