TID BITS

  • Giaan's mother Jan attends all overseas meets while her father Bruce attends Australian based, he said that might have to change after Giaan won the 200m freestyle at the 2001 World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan!! :-)

  • Giaans interests include: Beach, netball, reading, shopping, relaxing with friends.

  • Giaan is a member of the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) swim team and a former member of the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) Swim team.

  • Sponsors include Channel 9, Mazda and Uncle Tobys.

  • Giaan attended All Saints Anglican School. She also attended Kieren Perkins' old school Indooroopilly State Primary, before the family moved to the Gold Coast when she was in yr 2.

  • Giaan studies at Gold Coast's Bond University. She has expressed interest in being a sports commentator when her swimming career is over.

  • Charities that Giaan supports include: Leukaemia Foundation, RSPCA and World Vision.

  • Giaan began swimming when a friend from school asked her to join a club with her.

  • In response to the question "What do you want to be remembered for most in 50 years?"
    Giaan answered: A consistent swimmer who someone could always count on to swim well both individually and in relays.

  • Along with Geoff Huegill, Giaan is one of the 'faces' of Austswim in their advertising campaign designed to teach the importance of water saftey and learning to swim for both the young and old.

  • Clementine Stoney and Giaan are room mates when on trips away with the Aussie swim team.

  • Giaan was named as one of three co-captains for the (women's) swim team at the 2002 Commonwealth Games. One of the other co-captain's was Petria Thomas and I'm not sure the third one, although my guess is Sarah Ryan - but I'll let you know if I find out...It was ;-)
