The
Holy Order of Our Lady of Debauchery |
In many different religious traditions, there is a common method of prayer
or meditation; the use of a string of beads or one form or another to help
keep tack of repetitions. The best known in America is the Catholic Rosary;
but there is a circle of beads known as the Buddhist Rosary, and many Pagans
and people who use repetitive affirmations "tell their beads".
We have written a version of the Rosary for the Holy Order of Our
Lady of Debauchery; it revolves around "the
Five Virtues
," things we consider important to have in your life. If you would like
to do a more generic version of the rosary, you can use the
Creed
and the Prayer
(found in the Service
); or you can make up your own.
We recommend that, unless you find the Catholic crucifix or Christian
cross a holy symbol, you make your own Rosary using beads that you'll like
to play with and a Holy Symbol that will mean something to you.
Hold the symbol at the bottom of your Rosary, and reverence* it. As
you do so, think on why it is a holy thing for you, and what it represents.
On the first large bead, recite the Creed.
I Believe in God, the Supreme Being, And in Goddess, who Told Me to Humor Him;
I Believe in Our Lady of Debauchery, Who was Born when Humans First had Fun Together, Gains Strength from Every Joke, and Who will Exist as Long as there is Anyone with Joy in their Heart. Every Act of Love and Pleasure is a Ritual to Her, and Every Time I make Someone Smile it is as Incense to Her Nose.
I Believe in the Holy Icon, the Eighteen Forms of Debauchery, the Rules, the Saints, and Fun in General. So There.
For each of the small beads, recite:
Our Lady of Debauchery, Help my life to Merry be
And to observe these Virtues Five So I can Live, not just survive.
For the large bead before the centerpiece, recite the First Virtue:
Honor one must always bring to Spouse and Family, Clan and King
This earthly bod shall pass away But my good name is here to stay.
Skip the centerpiece (it is the last to be prayed on). On each of the next 10 small beads, repeat the Our Lady above.
The next large bead is the Second Virtue:
Play, as Captain Jim Kirk knew, Is something all Superior Types
do.
Include a bit in every day To chase the dreary blahs away.
Recite the Our Lady for the 10 small beads, then on the next large one the Third Virtue:
Love to some is no big thing; For others it is cause to sing.
Just open both your heart and mind --Be One with everything you find.
Recite the Our Lady for the 10 small beads, then on the next large one the Fourth Virtue:
Joy in life, in Nature, shall Be the Salvation of us all.
Without it, we would be mere Drones and do naught but whine and moan.
Recite the Our Lady for the 10 small beads, then on the next large one the Fifth Virtue:
Integrity is the best way To play at work and work at play.
Make of your life a "mystical whole," and remember your response is all
you control.
Recite the Our Lady for the last 10 small beads. On the centerpiece pray to Our Lady on your own, thanking her for past fun and asking for help in the future. Then you're done.
* reverence: a way to show your love or respect for what the symbol represents to you. Many Christians kiss their crosses; Japanese monks bow over their rosaries; some Asatru touch a bit of whatever they're drinking to their symbol, as a sort of zen libation. Whatever you feel is appropriate for you to do, you do.
