Here, Jasper is enjoying a stretch as he wakes up for the evening. He is in a smaller cage than his present one. This cage was a "chinchilla condo" purchased while he was a baby, since he could easily get through the bars of the big cage for the first month or so that I had him.

Jasper has this very endearing trait of sitting in his cage with his teeth over one of the bars. He then proceeds to stare at me, or falls asleep. He probably does it because the bar feels cool--he often bites the bar after running around for a while.

Jasper's Mega-Cage

Jasper's cage is 5 feet tall, 3.5 feet wide and 2.5 feet deep. It is basically a modified macaw cage. When I had it built I made sure that the bars were less than 1 inch apart, to prevent escapes. There are seven wooden levels that Jasper is easily able to jump around.

Jasper loves sleeping in this ferret tent during the day.

Every now and again Jasper gets a tums as a calcium supplement. He really likes the green ones.
