Getting around

For those of you flying there is really no need to rent a car, public transport is very convenient and you’ll get a better feel for the city.

Arriving with Aerlingus to Glasgow International airport. The 905 bus leaves from outside the terminal. Get off at Queen St Station and take the underground to Hillhead St. This is the main underground for Byers road. A taxi from the airport to Byres road will cost around £15.

Arriving with Ryanair to Prestwick airport. Take the train from the airport. This will leave you in to Glasgow central train station. From there either take a taxi to the westend around £6 or follow the signs for St Enochs underground station and take this to Hillhead.

By car. Coming from Stranraer, Troon or Prestwick take the A77/M77 to Glasgow. As you approach Glasgow take the right hand lane to join the M8 (signposted Edinburgh), Go over the Kingston Bridge and take Junction 17 and follow sign for A82 Dumbarton/Kelvinside (Great Western Road). Continue straight along this road through for around 1.5 miles and you will come to a set of traffic lights where the Hilton Grosvernor is situated on your left-hand side, (junction of Byres Road/Queen Margaret Drive).
