Weight balance system

Accurate Balance of LX200 is very important for the motor's  long life and for the smart drive (PEC)  effective operation.

Stressing the motors of an LX200 fork mount system by unbalanced loads can increase by the time the backlash in DEC and RA drive or even can cause motor's to fail.

If you examine that your telescope has any declination backlash you can visit the page declination cause and elimination to get some input about .

Balancing a fork mount system on a wedge it isn't a easy task because of the mount nature. The system I own is a very sophisticate design and the most complete balance system in the market.

The system can  balance any possible accessories mounted in the scope, starting from a piggy back camera telephoto or prime focus 35mm camera guide-scope  or guider/CCD camera.

I bought my weight balance system from Chris Heapy in England and I think this is one of the best of its kind and complete will balance any possibility of realistic load.

The lower brackets with dovetail bars and

2-D Weight Bracket and Weight

The upper brackets with dovetail bars and camera brackets

You can see the modification in the camera bracket height in order to win 2.5cm so to be able to balance my telephoto lens.

The kit contain the following parts:

  • The two dovetail bars

  • Pair of upper brackets

  • Pair of lower brackets

  • 2-D Weight Bracket and Weight

  • Camera Bracket

  • Trimming weight

The parts are fine machined , and made from black anodized aluminum.

The only thing I can say needs to  prove is the camera bracket height.

In the situation of heavy telephoto the weight in 2-D bar is not enough to balance it .

So as you can see I made a modification in the bracket height in order to win 2.5cm so to be able to balance my telephoto lens.

For more information about the system follow the link for Chris Heapy dovetail accessories.

Note : If the above system is a bit expensive for your budget or if you like an experience making your own balance system go to  my do it yourself weight balance system.
