Object Information: M16 (NGC 6611), is a remarkable open star cluster surrounded by a nebula known as the "Eagle nebula". It is located in the constellation Serpens . Its distance estimated about 7000 light years away. In photographs this object highlight the beautiful nebulosity in the region, and you can see the characteristics "Gas Pillars" inside the nebula. These pillar-like structures are actually columns of cool interstellar hydrogen gas and dust and are also incubators for new stars. Visually the nebulosity is faintly visible and a UHC filter enhances the view, showing the Eagle pattern clearly and its relation to the cluster. |
