Object Information: M33 (NGC 598) is a very large and quite faint face-on spiral galaxy .It is located on the constellation Triangulum and is another member of the Local Group of galaxies . It's seventeen arc minutes west of alpha Trianguli and one degree north; The pronounced arms exhibit numerous reddish HII regions (including NGC 604), as well as bluish clouds of young stars. Several other knots in the spiral arms of M33 have been assigned their own NGC catalog numbers: NGCs 588, 592, 595, and NGC 603 The galaxy is estimated to be from 2.5 to 3.5 million light years away. You can observe this object using good binoculars, or in low powers eyepieces in telescopes. |
