How to connect to Internet through GSM (modem pool)

The first thing to do is to get in contact with a provider of modem pool services and open an account with a username and a password. Once this is made the iPAQ needs to be set up for such a connection. Please follow the instructions below:

1

Under the Start-menu, choose Settings.
2

Under this menu there are three pages, Personal, System and Connections. Choose Connections.
3

Now there are a number of icons to choose and the one to click is Connections.
4

On the page that is displayed on the screen there are three curtain menus. We want to modify the Internet Settings in the top menu.
5

Choose New… and give the connection an appropriate name. i.e."GSM web access".
Choose the modem Gismo Data and a Baud Rate of 38400 or whatever rate your operator uses.
6

Click on the Advanced button: There are the three pages available to change here.

The Port Settings:
    Data Bits: 8

Parity:
None
    Stop Bits: 1
    Flow Control: None

Uncheck all of the boxes.
Under TCP/IP and Name Servers the circle with “Use server assigned …” should be checked.
7
  Click OK
8
  Click Next
9
Remove Country Code and Area code and write the modem pool Phone number and click Next.
10
Make sure that the “Cancel if not connected within 120 seconds”-box is checked and that the other (Wait for …) box is unchecked. No extra dial-string commands are necessary
11
  Click Finish.

Now the iPAQ is set up to access the web through a GSM modem pool. If you also have a GPRS connection set up you have to make sure you use the connection intended when you connect. The Pocket PC OS sets the last used connection as default and it will be used if the web is accessed by clicking the Internet Explorer icon. If it is desired to use the other connection you need to enter the connections menu by following step 1-4 above. Then click and hold on the desired connection option and choose connect on the pop-up menu. Once you receive the message that you are connected, choose the Internet Explorer and enter the web.
