September 30, 1996

GA = Gillian Anderson
DL = David Letterman

[...]

DL: Give us an encapsulated version of what the show is. Some people are the monster robots from space, and some people are not.

GA: Hang on a second. Hang on a second. The last time I was here we got onto this conversation, and it went south really, really fast.

DL: Cause you're talking to a dumb guy. But some are, some ain't, right?

GA: No, I'm not going to have this conversation with you.

DL: And You're not.

GA: I'm not going to have this conversation with you.

DL: And that's why people like to tune in every week, because they think, "Oh, wait a minute, maybe they--noooo, thank God, they didn't get to her."

GA: When you watch the show, then we can talk about the show. Okay? Is that a deal?

DL: [laughing] All right. That seems fair enough.

GA: When you watch the show for the first time, then we can have this conversation.

DL: I have seen the show! I have seen the show! I'm just--for folks, maybe, who haven't seen the show.

[Gillian laughed and rolled her eyes.]
